The following article might to useful to most of these users because the information is almost the same for all of these.

To get started once you unbox the package, you would notice that the hotspot comes with the battery placed in a separate compartment. You need to pull it out and put it with-in the device. But before this, you need to ensure that you have a JIO 4G SIM Card that’s already active and working. Do make a note that when you buy these JioFi devices, you get a free SIM Card & it is important to get it activated with the device because these units get 20GB of daily data limit while the regular SIM Card has a 4GB of daily data limit.

Quick Menu & Tips

How To Insert the SIM Card:
You need to open up the back case of the device and find the SIM Card & the SD Card slots. Slide it to the right to unlock it and insert the SIM Card into the tray. The JIO SIM Cards are Nano-sized, and you shall need an adapter that also comes with the package itself. Once inserted you need to put the battery on the back and then close the back. Long press on the home button to boot up the device & wait for a few seconds to get connected to the Internet that’s automatically done if your SIM card is active.

How to Access Router Settings Page:
By default, this device is locked, and you cannot access the same without logging into it. To get started, you will have to check the backside of the unit where you had inserted the SIM Card. This is where you would find the SSID & the password to access the internet as well as the settings page. Once you have connected to the JioFi hotspot that generally in the format of “JioFi2_XXXXX” you would see that the connection is typically going to work but to change the name of this for easy remembering you need to access the local page. This can be accessed by visiting the local IP, i.e., 192.168.1.1 or else http://ift.tt/2dS4svM where you would find the following page with a good amount of information.

How to Update the Firmware or Software:
The router by default comes with the latest software pre-installed, but after a few months of usage, you would find that there should be an update to the same. Go to Settings > Firmware Upgrade tab on the settings page where you would find that the latest device software version is PEG_M2_B20. If you find the update on any website, you should download the file and then import it on this software update page to proceed and upgrade the same. If you have made many changes, then you can always create a backup of the configuration that can be restored later to another device too.

How to Change SSID & Hotspot Password:
To ensure that you can easily remember the password and share it with your friends since the device supports upto 31 connects you need to visit this link http://ift.tt/2dS4svM following which on the top right you shall see an option of login. Click on login with “administrator” as both ID & Password. The first time you do this you shall be shown the following message which is crucial – “* For security reasons, please change default WebGUI password. Modify”. Next, click on Setting > WiFi Tab where you would find the relevant fields that you could change. Starting with SSID, 802.11 Mode, WMM, Tx Power, Wireless Security, Wireless Encryption Type, Security Key, Channel mode to Wi-Fi Module. Once you have made the changes, you will have to click on Apply following which the device would restart, and you will be disconnected from the hotspot connected since the SSID is changed. Go to the Wireless options and reconnect with the new authentications and you have successfully made changes to the required sections.

Finding Battery Levels & Product Information:
On the device itself, you can locate the battery levels in the form of three bars though that’s not in detail format & this is when you might want to get more information. You need to head over to the Jiofo settings section where there is a tab called “Device Details”. Click on it, and you shall find the manufacturers name i.e. ODM which in this case is Pegasus. Next, on the same page, there is Battery Level along with Battery Status. If it’s running on its internal battery, then it should show you “Discharging” or else “Charging” in case you are charging it. The Firmware creation date is also mentioned along with version number and the IMEI number just incase you would need it for any support.

Finding Connected Devices:
The JioFi M2 connects to upto 31 devices at the same time and when you are experiencing a slow connection its important to find out who all are using your connection. To do this, you need to go to the settings page, LAN info tab where at the end there’s the “LAN Client List” that shows the Name, IP, MAC address, Leased Time and the status.

Can I Stop the Hotspot from Switching Off?
By default, the device comes with a Power saving feature available under Settings > Advance. This is where you would notice that the time has been set for 30 minutes following which the device would automatically turn off, especially when it’s not in use. You can make changes to this depending on the time frame that you think would suit your requirements. The longer you keep it, the more chances of battery draining quickly and you will have to keep charging it. It is recommended keeping this time as small as possible for better battery management.

How to Find Total Download & Upload Usage & Speeds:
To find the usage on your device, you will again have to head over to the settings page. This is the one-page solution that helps you in finding most of the information you are seeking. Click on Status > System Performance tab to find the details. This shows you the Uplink & Downlink information along with the highest, lowest and the averages. You can also find the total amount of download and upload under Status > WAN info where the complete data used numbers are shown.

How to Reset the JioFi 2 Device:
In case you end up doing some mistakes while setting it up, you do not have to worry because you can easily Reset it with the hardware button. Take a SIM Ejector Pin that you normally get in the box of a Smartphone and insert it into the Reset button found on the back for around 60 seconds and then release it. The device will start blinking and then reboot automatically confirming that it’s reset to the factory default settings and you can go through the steps mentioned on the top to set it up.

Tips to Increase Speeds:
Here are a few additional tips that could be useful to you in case you are experiencing lower speeds on your hotspot.

  • Set a Wireless Encryption Password to ensure only you and your known contacts can access this connection. If it’s kept to open its obviously going to be abused.
  • Ensure that you have changed the DNS to Open DNS i.e. 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 or else opt for Google DNS, the IP address for which is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
  • Keep the device very close to the windows or any open area instead of keeping it very close inside your room. This ensures that it can easily connect to the network.
