Xiaomi Launches Mi Note 2 with 5.7″ OLED Display, 6GB RAM & Snapdragon 821 SoC
On January 15th last year, Xiaomi unveiled the all new Mi Note series by launching two new smartphones – Mi Note & Mi Note Pro. Unlike the Mi series, at that time these devices featured bigger displays and came with premium build quality. Now after 648 days, the company has launched the successor Mi Note 2 today in China. A few months back, we reported that the company will be launching high-end devices that cost more than 4000 Yuan (approx $590) in China. Xiaomi is looking to place itself as a premium brand with these devices; the premiumness comes only with a premium price tag. The Mi Note 2 will be available in Silver and Black color options.
At such a high price tag, the company is offering top notch specifications along with superior build quality. One more important point to know is that the Mi Note 2 doesn’t feature curved displays which we see on the Samsung device. It has a 3D curved glass placed on top of the flat display; the earlier launched Blackberry Priv & Vivo XPlay 5 Elite also came with the similar type of curved glass. Last years, Mi Note also came with the similar curved glass placed on the rear. The Mi Note 2 comes with double curved glass on front and rear of the device. It has Aluminum frame which holds both the glasses perfectly.
On the front is a 5.7-inch flexible OLED display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. It comes with 110% NTSC and offers 77.2% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood is the latest Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz and coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The Mi 5S that was launched last month came with the same processor but is only clocked at 2.15GHz. The high-end variant comes with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There will also be a 4GB RAM variant with different storage options. With all these powerful specifications, the device is backed by a 4,070mAh battery and supports QuickCharge 3.0 for fast charging.
With the built-in NFC, the Mi Note 2 can be used for Mi Pay mobile payment services. The Qualcomm Arctic audio codec is said to provide Hi-Fi audio on the Mi Note 2; the HTC 10 is the first smartphone to feature this codec. Talking about the cameras on this premium devices, it comes with the Sony’s 23MP IMX 318 sensor with PDAF and f/2.0 aperture. For selfies, there is an 8MP IMX268 sensor on the fornt with f/2.0 aperture.
