Samsung W2018 Clamshell Phone with F/1.5 Camera & Bixby AI Goes Official

Earlier this month, we have reported about a new clamshell phone from Samsung called W2018. Now, the company has officially launched its flagship clamshell phone in China. Apart from the top-notch specifications and superior build quality, the company also introduced a few new features with the W2018. The Samsung W2018 is the successor to W2017 launched in November last year. With the W2018, Samsung also introduced the Bixby AI to its flip phone lineup.
Just like other Samsung smartphones, the W2018 also comes with a dedicated Bixby button for triggering Bixby. Samsung also announced that the Bixby AI now works in the Chinese language. The device comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and rear. There is also special edition device called W2018 Premium Edition, which comes with four zirconium diamonds and unique serial number.
Talking about the specifications, the W2018 sports two 4.2-inch AMOLED displays with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. It comes powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and 6GB RAM. The standard edition comes with 64 GB of internal storage and the premium edition offers 256GB of internal storage. However, there is also a MicroSD slot for storage expansion up to 256GB.
On the rear, the device sports a 12MP camera with f/1.5 aperture, OIS, and LED flash. We are seeing a camera with f/1.5 aperture for the first time on a smartphone. In the ideal lighting conditions, the rear camera of the W2018 can switch to f/2.4 aperture for better depth of field effect. The W2018 can For selfies, the W2018 features a 5MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture. The device supports dual SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM slot.
It is backed by a 2,300mAh non-removable battery that supports adaptive fast charging via a USB Type-C port. The Samsung W2018 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and there is no information about the latest Oreo update. Along with the rear-facing fingerprint sensor, the device also comes with an IRIS scanner on the front. The device also includes NFC support for making payments via Samsung Pay.
The Samsung W2018 with 64GB storage comes in Black color and the premium edition W2018 will be available in Gold and Silver color options. Coming to the pricing, the standard variant of the Samsung W2018 is said to be retailing for a whopping 15,999 Yuan (approx $2420 / Rs. 1,56,000) in China.
