Google dreamed of bringing the high-quality smartphones in India, Indonesia, and other emerging markets by offering them at an affordable price. Instead of Google, the Chinese brands have revolutionized the budget category by providing the same high-end specifications at sub $100 price range. After the failure of Android One devices in 2014, Google gave the freedom to manufacturers regarding the design and specifications of the Android One devices.

In July 2015, Lava came up with the Pixel V1 as the Android One 2.0 smartphone priced almost double than the first generation Android One devices. Google also expanded the Android One project to Europe by launching the $238 General Mobile 4G smartphone in Turkey. In the same time, we have seen Chinese smartphone manufacturers expanding the market presence by bringing even better specifications at $150 price range.

At the same $150 price range, the Chinese brands are offering all-metal body and fingerprint sensor along with better camera sensors and processor. But Google is still trying hard to make the Android One devices a good alternative for low-cost smartphones from Chinese brands. Now Android One is entering the Japanese market with the Sharp 507SH smartphone. Google has included the waterproof feature, which is the loved by the most of the smartphone users in Japan.

Just like the Pixel V1, the Sharp Aquos 507SH comes with mid-range specifications. It includes IP58 certifications, which makes the device both waterproof and dustproof. It is powered by Snapdragon 617 MSM8952 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

It has 16 of internal storage that can be expanded additionally upto 200GB with the MicroSD card slot. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with stock UI and no bloatware apps. Since the Android One device are updated with the latest Android versions for the next 18 months after launch, the Sharp Aquos 507SH will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat along with the Android O update in 2017 as well.

On the camera front, the Aquos 507SH features a 13.1MP rear shooter with LED flash and a 5MP front sensor with the wide-angle lens. The device is backed by a 3,100mAh battery that is rated to deliver 20.3 hours of talk time and lasts up to 875 hours on standby. It measures 142 x 71 x 8.8 mm and weighs 135 grams. The Sharp Aquos 507SH will be available in Blue, Black, and White color options. The final pricing of the device is not yet announced, and we guess it to be around $200 – $250 price range. We don’t expect this device to be available out of the Japan. Stay tuned for the official pricing; we will update once the company announces it.
