Zopo Speed 8 (4)

Chinese phone manufacturer Zopo plans to set up its manufacturing plant in India by the end of this year. This is expected with an initial investment of about 100 crores as the company is aiming to produce about 2 lakh handsets per month. The company entered India in September 2015 and is not planning to set up the production facility in places like Noida etc.

Currently, Adcom, a domestic electronics company, is the exclusive national distributor of the firm here in India. It is reported that currently around 50,000 to 60,000 devices are sold every month. Adcom is also representing Zopo in their other operations as well like marketing and logistics etc. A company official from Adcom stated that by Diwali this year, the company is aiming to sell about 100,000 devices every month, and thus make a turnover of about 1,000 crores annually.

By setting up manufacturing plants here in India, the company plans to export to south-east Asian countries. It is stated that the company already has a presence in countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. So once the production facility is set here, all these countries will be supplied from here. As of now, globally the company has its presence in 135 countries including Europe, China, and South-east Asia.

Talking about the products from the company, it recently launched the Speed 8 smartphone. It is the first to be powered by a Helios X20 chipset, which is a Deca-core processor, clocking 700MHz. It is accompanied by a Mali T-880 GPU, which is supported by a 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Internationally the device is priced at $299 (approx Rs. 20,000) while in India, it is launched at Rs. 31,500 and will be exclusively available on Snapdeal. It will be interesting to see how the company plans to expand here in India given the fierce competition these days in the smartphone industry. Stay tuned for more information on this in future.
