(September 5th, 2017)
While the first-gen Android One devices failed after the initial buzz, Google has loosened the restrictions to manufacture the next-gen Android One smartphones. The Xiaomi made Android One device will bring totally a new perspective towards the Android One program. The all-new Mi A1 is priced at just Rs. 14,999 and the company continue to offer the enticing price-to-specs ratio. As we reported last month, the Mi A1 is actually the same Mi 5X that was launched in July in China. While the Mi 5X comes with the in-house MIUI, the Mi A1 runs on stock Android.
It comes with an Aluminum built unibody design with curved Antenna bands. There is a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display on the front with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The all-new global flagship smartphone from Xiaomi comes powered by the 14nm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 4GB of RAM. Even the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 launched in early 2017 also featured the same Snapdragon 625 SoC. The Mi A1 also packs 64GB of internal storage that can be further expandable via a MicroSD card slot.
On the rear is a dual camera setup featuring 12MP telephoto sensor with f/2.6 aperture and 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture. It can record 4K videos at 30 fps and 720p slo-mo videos at 120 fps. The Mi 6 flagship smartphone launched in the first half of 2017 in China also features the same 12MP dual cameras. As seen on the iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5 smartphones, the Mi A1 also offers 2X optical zoom. For selfies, there is a 5MP camera placed on the front with 36 built-in beauty modes.
On the connectivity front, the Mi A1 supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port. It is backed by a 3,080mAh non-removable battery and supports 5V/2A fast charging. It measures 155.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm and weighs 165 grams. The circular fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear of the device. We can also activate the Google Assistant by long pressing the capacitive home button. It will be available in Black, Gold, and Rose Gold color options.
Latest: Xiaomi Mi A1 is Now Available for Rs. 13,999 in India
During the recent “Big Shopping Days” sale on Flipkart, the Mi A1 was sold at Rs. 12,999 after a discount of Rs. 2,000 on the launch price. However, the discounted price has lasted only for a couple of days. Now, the company came up with a permanent price cut of Rs. 1,000, which brings the Mi A1 price to Rs. 13,999. It is currently one of the best mid-range devices available in the country.
The Mi A1 will be competing with the newly launched Honor 7X. The Honor 7X comes with the new 18:9 display technology and is priced very aggressively at just Rs. 12,999. While the Mi A1 is sold via Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores, the Honor 7X is only limited to Amazon India. Apart from the no-cost EMI option, Flipkart is also offering 5% additional discount when purchased using the Axis Bank Buzz credit card.
