At the MWC 2018, Samsung and Sony unveiled their 2018 flagship smartphones powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform. In the coming months, we will be seeing flagship smartphones from other major manufacturers like HTC, LG, and Huawei. Now, we got to know the key specifications of the HTC’s upcoming flagship smartphone. It will be launching the HTC U12 as the successor to last year’s HTC U11. The recent rumors also suggest the company to soon launch the HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12 Plus smartphones with 18:9 displays.
HTC U12 with 5.99″ Quad HD+ Display, SD845, & Dual Cameras Leaked

Talking about the HTC U12, it is said to come with minimal design changes when compared to its predecessor. The device is codenamed as HTC Imagine and sports a 5.99-inch display with Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The HTC U11+ launched in second half of 2018 is the first ever HTC smartphone to offer 18:9 display. Under the hood is the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants and offers up to 256GB of internal storage.
On the rear, the HTC U12 sports dual rear cameras with 12MP & 16MP sensors. For selfies, the device comes with an 8MP front-facing camera. Apart from the fingerprint sensor, the device will also support Face Unlock for authentication. The HTC U12 will be backed by a 3,420mAh non-removable battery and will support fast charging technology. With this device, HTC will also introduce Edge Sense 2.0, and we expect it to be a bit more responsive. It will be running on the Android Oreo out of the box with the Sense UI laid on top.

HTC Will be Launching HTC U12+ with Flagship 2nd Gen Edge Sense

Earlier this month, we mentioned the leaked HTC Imagine smartphone to be soon launched as HTC u12. According to Evan Blass, the company will be launching the above mentioned smartphone as HTC u12+ in late April or early May. While HTC launched both HTC u11 and U11+ in 2017, we might only see the HTC U12+ in 2018. With the second-gen Edge Sense, the upcoming flagship might offer even better features.
Based on the earlier leaks, the HTC U12+ is expected to launch in mid-April. However, the reason for the delay in launching the product is not known. As said earlier, the company is also going to introduce the 18:9 display in the Desire series with the launch of HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ smartphones. The upcoming Desire smartphones will come powered by an unknown MediaTek processor.

Earlier this year, the HTC U12+ specifications and first look are leaked. Today, Even Blass has posted the press renders and full specifications of the HTC U12+ smartphone. The device comes with glossy ‘liquid surface’ design and has curved edges on the rear for better grip. Along with Edge Sense 2 technology, the device is also said to feature pressure sensitive buttons. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with HTC Sense UI laid on top.
It sports 6-inch notch-less Super LCD 6 display with Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It supports HDR 10 playback and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood is the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform clocked at 2.6GHz. It offers 6GB of RAM and comes in 64GB and 128GB storage options. There is also a MicroSD card slot for expanding the storage up to 2TB.
The HTC U12+ is also IP68 certified, which means it is water and dust resistant. Talking about the cameras, there is a dual camera setup on the rear featuring a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 1.4µm pixel size and a 16MP telephoto sensor f/2.6 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size. The rear camera supports HDR Boost 2, OIS, AR stickers, 2x optical zoom along with UltraSpeed Autofocus 2 which combines PDAF and laser autofocus.
The user can record 4K videos at 60 fps with the rear camera and 360-degree 3D audio with the four microphones. For selfies, there are dual 8MP front-facing cameras with f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle view. Along with the fingerprint sensor, the device also supports face unlock. There are also BoomSound Hi-Fi edition speakers onboard. It also comes with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants.
Connectivity options include Cat.18 LTE, Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO, 4×4 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, and USB 3.1 Type-C port. The HTC U12+ is backed by a 3,500mAh battery that also supports Quick Charge 3.0. It measures 156.6 x 73.9 x 8.7mm and weighs 188 grams.
