OnePlus 6 Officially Launched with All-Glass Body for $529
Just like its previous launches, OnePlus has created a lot of hype around the all-new OnePlus 6 smartphone. Today, the company has officially unveiled the OnePlus 6 and Bullet Wireless in London. For the India launch of these two products, we need to wait for one more day. The OnePlus 6 will be the second smartphone from OnePlus to come glass body. The mid-range OnePlus X launched in 2015 is the first OnePlus smartphone to embrace the glass design.
With the OnePlus 6, the company went for a complete design overhaul. The dual cameras on the rear are now placed in the top middle position. On the front, we can see the notch display that increases the screen-to-body ratio to 84%. It comes in Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White color options. To give strength to this all-glass body, the company is using the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and rear.
The OnePlus 6 is only splash resistant, but not water resistant as there is no IP certification. Along with the OnePlus logo on the rear, we are newly seeing the ‘Designed by OnePlus’ tagline. The alert slider position is changed from left edge to right edge on the OnePlus 6. There is a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display with a notch on top. It offers Full HD+ (2280 x 1080 pixels) resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio.
It comes powered by the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform coupled with Adreno 630 GPU and Kryo 385 CPU. The device will be available in 6GB and 8GB RAM variants with 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. There will be no MicroSD card support for expanding the storage. It runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based Oxygen OS 5.1.2 out of the box. As seen on other major flagship smartphones, there are no stereo speakers on the OnePlus 6.
It is backed by the same 3,300mAh non-removable battery as seen on the OnePlus 5T. Even the Dash Charge technology remains same as on its predecessor; it gives up to 5V/4A (20W) output. The OnePlus 6 also features software-based facial recognition technology to support face unlock. Talking about the cameras, the company has brought a couple of new features. The OnePlus 6 can now record 4K videos at 60 fps and 720p super slow motion videos at 480 fps.
The primary rear camera now sports 16MP Sony IMX519 sensor with 1.22µm pixel size, OIS, EIS, and f/1.7 aperture. This new sensor is said to be 19% larger than the Sony IMX398 sensor used on the OnePlus 5T. The 20MP secondary rear camera remains same as on the OnePlus 5T. It is a Sony IMX376K sensor with 1.0µm pixel size and f/1.7 aperture. Even the 16MP Sony IMX371 sensor on the front is the same one offered with the OnePlus 5T.
The OnePlus 6 newly comes with a video editor for quickly editing the videos. It measures 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.75 mm and weighs 177 grams. Connectivity options include Cat.16 LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C 2.0 port.
