Xiaomi to Soon Launch MediaTek-powered Smartphones in India
Back in 2014, Xiaomi was ordered to stop selling its smartphones in India by the Delhi High Court. The fight with Ericson resulted in Xiaomi using only the Snapdragon chipsets for its smartphones in the country. While the things seem to be settled down, the company hasn’t announced any new smartphones in India with the MediaTek processor.
Now, the latest news from MediaTek suggests Xiaomi is now free to their chipsets in the Indian market. We might actually see the MediaTek powered Xiaomi smartphones very soon in the market. The Redmi Note 4G was the last Xiaomi smartphone to launch in India with the MediaTek chipset. It then came with MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor.
Even in China, the company hasn’t launched any MediaTek powered smartphones in the last couple of years. Last year, the company introduced its first ever chipset called Surge S1. The Redmi 5X is the only smartphone to come be powered by this new chipset. While there are leaks about the Surge S2, we are yet to receive any official confirmation.
According to the source, Xiaomi is said to have placed orders for the MediaTek Helio P60 and P70 chipsets. While the Helio P60 is already used in a few smartphones, we are yet to see the new Helio P70-powered smartphones in India. Based on the earlier leaks, Xiaomi might soon launch the Helio P60 powered smartphone.
While the devices like Real Me 1 features the latest 12nm Helio P60 processor, the newly launched Redmi Y2 came with the 2-year old Snapdragon 625 processor. Xiaomi has scheduled an event to launch Redmi 6 smartphone tomorrow in China. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
