Blackberry Mercury Smartphone with Snapdragon 625 SoC & Android 7.0 Nougat spotted online
Blackberry is all set to launch the new DTEK60 smartphone, which is going to the successor to the existing DTEK50 smartphone. And if you are not aware, the company launched this DTEK50 smartphone as one of the most secure smartphones ever. Well, we cannot really vouch for the same as the device was affected by the Quadroot malware regardless. But hey, this time at least aren’t expecting any such claim from them. But while we wait for the DTek60 smartphone, a new smartphone from the company called ‘Mercury’ has been spotted online.
This alleged new smartphone which goes by the company’s name has a model number BBB100-1. And as far as the specs are concerned, looking at the listing, it looks like a decent mid-ranged device. And we are not surprised at since the company has been found focusing more on the mid-ranged devices lately. The DTek50 also had mid-ranged specs, and so is the upcoming DTek60. Now let’s take a look at what this smartphone offers in terms of specs.
When you talk about the specs of the device, this new ‘Mercury’ could pack a decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor under the hood. This will be supported by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage as well. On the front, we are looking at a 4.5-inch display with a 3:2 ratio and HD (720p) resolution. Now this is where we start speculating. Since the display size appears to be on the smaller side, we may see the traditional keyboard returning here.
Also, in terms of the camera, we are looking at an 18-megapixel rear facing camera and an 8-megapixel front facing camera. This smartphone will be kept powered by a 3,400 mAh battery under the hood. And another interesting thing about this is the fact that it will be running the latest and the greatest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. This is interesting because currently, the only two smartphones that run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box are the new Pixel devices and the LG-made V20.
This is something to look forward here from Blackberry. Also being a mid-ranged smartphone and run the latest version of Android is definitely a welcome move. Now we just have to see how this one will stand in front of the DTEK60 which will be launching soon. But since the DTEK60 will be under high-end smartphone territory running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC with 4GB of RAM, we can’t expect them both to compete. But it is good to see that the company is still focusing on launching new hardware although they are not making them by themselves anymore.
Well, now talking about the pricing and availability of this smartphone is concerned, we can’t expect the company to launch this before the launch of the much-awaited DTEK60 smartphone. So maybe if they launch the DTEK60 smartphone in coming weeks, then we can expect the ‘Mercury’ to make an appearance soon after that within a few months.
