Google Pixel Vs Google Pixel XL Smartphone Comparison

Today the Mountain View giant has unveiled their two new handsets named as Pixel & Pixel XL. This year the company has moved on from co-branded Nexus line-up to their branded handsets. It’s almost Google wants to become Apple, by introducing their own branded smartphones, one a compact device, while one is a phablet.

Below is a specification showdown to compare what are similarities and differences between the new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones launched by Google today. The factors that we have considered are design, display, hardware, software, cameras and battery. Check out.

Design

These two devices that are quite similar in design aesthetics are said to come in three colours, Black, Silver & Blue. With Google branding being the first sight on the rear side of the handsets. Sporting aluminium body construction these two handsets have same design features such as antennas and edges. The backside has a glass body and you can easily notice that rear and top side has a different look. The part where camera and fingerprint sensor lies is a glass body. The only difference is in terms of the size, one is compact and one is a phablet.

Display

The most important features for me is the display on a smartphone. The devices come with impressive displays as touted by the company. The display is Hi-Definition AMOLED screen, which is something of a great deal. AMOLED displays are the best when we talk about colour output, they are vivid as well. The Pixel has a 5-inch display, while the Pixel XL is a 5.5-inch display. Here Pixel is Full HD while the Pixel XL is QHD (2K). According to the needs, users can opt for the choice they want, without compromising the quality of the display. Bothe the displays are protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

Hardware

Both these are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, which is an upgrade from 820. The already powerful chipset now gets more efficient and powerful. The Quad-core setup has a two core clocking at 1.6 GHz and other two at 2.15 GHz. With a combination of a 4GB LPDDR4 RAM that keeps the device running fast even if you have opened tonnes of apps. There is a Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor that company is touting is available on both of these handsets. Do make a note that both of these handsets would support DayDream VR ready. The internal storage options would be 32 and 128 GB, while no microSD card slot is present on any of the device.

Software

In terms of the software, these two handsets are similar as well. The new Pixel phones are running on Android 7.1 Nougat OS with a customised interface by Google. The company has introduced a new Pixel Launcher that sports a translucent launcher that rivals circular icons and it blurs the background wallpaper when you swipe up from below. Do make a note that there is a shortcut to summon technical support and a digital home button that would wake up Google’s Digital Assistant. Moreover, the company has touted this time that they are introducing Automatic updates that would be downloaded in the background.

Cameras

The camera department is also similar between the Pixel & Pixel XL smartphones. There is a 12.3-megapixel image sensor on the rear, which uses Laser as well as Phase Detection Autofocus technology for faster focusing.The aperture is of f/2.0 and the lens size is of 1.55μm. The rear module can record 4K videos at 30fps, while 720p at a maximum of 240fps and 1080p at 120fps. Talking about the front facing module, it has an 8-megapixel image sensor which has a 1.4µm pixel size. It is a fixed focus module with f/2.4 aperture.

Battery

Usually, brands like Apple and Google don’t tout about battery capacity and life. But Google this time at their event specifically had a section talking about the battery on new Pixel phones. The Mountain View giant has specifically touted about the quick charging support, which allows Pixel phones to be powered up to 7 hours from only 15 minutes of charging. The Pixel comes with a 2770 mAh capacity whereas the Pixel XL comes with a 3450 mAh capacity battery.
