Reliance working on a Jio 4G Laptop, a 13.3″ MacBook Clone with a 4G SIM Slot
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
With the launch of Jio 4G service, its parent company Reliance also launched the LYF smartphone brand to sell the affordable 4G VoLTE smartphones that work with the Jio 4G SIM. Later, we have also seen Jio branded Mi-Fi devices called JioFi and the 4G Wi-Fi routers called JioLink. If the rumors are to be believed, soon we will also see a Jio branded feature phone with VoLTE support. Earlier we have seen leaks about the Jio Car Connect, the Onboard Diagnostic device that works with the Jio 4G SIM and the Jio DTH service. Now, we got a new tip about the upcoming Jio product that brings much more diversification to the Jio’s ecosystem.
If everything works out well, soon we might see the Jio branded laptop. In case, if you are confused about the connection between Jio and a laptop, this new laptop comes with a dedicated 4G SIM card slot. As seen with the LYF smartphones which are just the rebranded Chinese smartphones, now the Jio 4G laptop is actually manufactured by Foxconn for Infocus. In December last year, Xiaomi launched the upgraded Mi Notebook Air laptop with 4G LTE support. The 4G laptop from Jio comes with a 4G SIM card slot placed on the left side. If the Windows 10 OS on the testing variant is confirmed for the final product, the company might also release the windows version of Jio suite of apps.
The Chrome OS is one good alternative for its laptop, as it now supports Android apps for using Jio apps. There is a 13.3-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with 16:9 aspect ratio. Above the display is the HD camera for making video calls. It comes with a Chocolate key style slim keyboard without a dedicated number pad. The laptop comes with magnesium alloy body without cooling fan measuring just 12.2mm thickness and weighs only 1.2kg. It uses Intel Pentium quad-core processor and packs 4GB of RAM. On the storage front, there is 64GB of eMMC storage and 128GB of SSD storage.
Apart from 4G LTE, other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, 2 USB 3.0 ports, Micro HDMI port, and a Micro SD card slot. While we don’t expect this cost anything cheap, the company might subsidize to make a grand entry into the laptop segment. Take the specifications with a pinch of salt since the company might downgrade them to make the laptop even more affordable. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
