After being in the leaks for the last couple of weeks, the Blackberry Motion is now officially announced at the ongoing GITEX 2017 event. This is the same device which was earlier spotted as Blackberry Krypton. Just like Blackberry Keyone, the new Blackberry Motion is also designed and manufactured by China-based TCL communication. The smartphone comes with aluminum frame and soft-grip textured back. It runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and is mentioned to receive the Android Oreo update in early 2018. Apart from the Google Apps, the device also includes BlackBerry Hub, BlackBerry Calendar, and DTEK by BlackBerry apps.
The Blackberry Motion also includes a new feature called Locker. With the Locker, the user can save the documents and photos to a protected internal storage. To access the files in the Locker Mode, the device requires the PIN code or fingerprint. The Convenience Key is now placed on the right edge and comes with a textured finish to distinguish from the power button. It now features four new customizable profiles for Home, Car, Office, and User. The physical home button with Blackberry logo on the front also comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor.
On the front is a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with 16:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. There is 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage that can be further expandable via a MicroSD card slot. The Blackberry Motion is also water and dust resistant, thanks to the IP67 certification. It supports dual SIM dual standby and comes with 4G LTE connectivity. There is a 12MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. On the front is an 8MP camera for selfies and video calls.
It also comes backed by a 4,000mAh which is mentioned to give up to 32 hours of mixed usage. This is also biggest battery capacity ever seen on a Blackberry smartphone. With the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support, the device can be charged from 0% to 50% in roughly 40 minutes. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port. The Blackberry Motion will first go on sale in the Middle East. It is priced at AED 1,699 in UAE and SAR 1,699 in Saudi Arabia (approximately $460 / Rs. 30,000). As of now, there is no information about the sale of this device in other markets.
