The affordable smartphones are getting better with the fierce competition among the manufacturers. While the Chinese brands are now more focused on the mid-range segment, the Indian brands are bringing low-cost 4G VoLTE smartphones to capture the market share of the first-time smartphone users.Most of the devices under Rs. 5,000 price range now support 4G VoLTE and can be used with Jio 4G SIM. Below list also includes one feature phone from one of the iconic brands.

New Nokia 3310 – Rs. 3,310

After several leaks and rumors, Nokia unveiled the all new Nokia 3310 at the MWC 2017. It is the modern version of the 17 years old Nokia 3310 which is known for its weeks-long battery life and sturdy built quality. Compared to older Nokia 3310, the Nokia 3310 is slimmer and comes with a glossy finish. We can also play the iconic Snake game on this new Nokia 3310. It even sports a 2.4-inch color display with a curved glass laid on top. Talking about the battery life, the 1,100mAh battery on this device is rated to last up to a month on standby. Connectivity options include 2G, Bluetooth 3.0 with SLAM, FM Radio, 3.5mm Audio port, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. The device runs on Nokia’s Series 30+ OS and comes with Opera browser. It has just 16MB of onboard storage but includes a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage up to 32GB. There is also a 2MP camera on the rear with LED flash. Though the specifications and the connectivity options don’t just justify the Rs. 3,310 price tag of Nokia 3310, it should generate good sale because of the Nokia’s brand name and popularity of the old Nokia 3310.

Sansui Horizon 2 – Rs. 4,999

The entry-level Sansui Horizon 2 smartphone is the successor to the earlier launched Horizon 1. Just like its predecessor, the new Horizon 2 is also sold exclusively through Flipkart in India. It is priced at just Rs. 4,999 and offers 4G VoLTE support for using with the Jio 4G SIM. It comes with a 5-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolutionUnder the hood is the MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor clocked at 1.25GHz and comes coupled with 2GB of RAM. It includes 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to another 64GB using the MicroSD card slot. Interestingly, the device runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. There is an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera for selfies and video calls. It is kept powered on by a 2,450mAh non-removable battery that might not last more than a day under the regular usage. The Sansui Horizon 2 also supports dual SIM dual standby, and the connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, & MicroUSB 2.0 port. It even packs an IR blaster for using it as a remote controller for TV, AC, and other home appliances.

Zen Admire Joy – Rs. 3,777

The Indian mobile phone brand, Zen launched its latest 4G VoLTE smartphone called Admire Joy for just Rs. 3,777. Just like the other low-cost Android smartphones, the Zen Admire Joy also comes with basic specifications. On the front is a 5-inch display FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) display surrounded by thick bezels on all the four sides. It is powered by an unspecified quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and includes 768MB of RAM. With such a low RAM, the device will be handling the basic functions but not the gaming and multi-tasking. It comes with 8GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. On the camera front, there is a 5MP primary camera on the rear and a 2MP selfie shooter on the front. There is a 2,000mAh battery that is mentioned to give up to 7.5 hours of talk time. The Zen Admire Joy still runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and includes a lot of bloatware apps. The company is also offering one-time screen replacement for free within the first six months.

Swipe Elite Star – Rs. 3,999

Swipe, the local low-cost smartphone maker came up with a new device called Swipe Elite Star. In December last year, the company the same Elite Star with 8GB of onboard storage and now, the newly launched variant packs 16GB of storage. Apart from the doubled storage, there are no other changes to the device. The new 16GB variant of the Elite Star costs Rs. 3,999 whereas the 8GB variant is retailing at Rs, 3,699. It comes with a 4-inch WVGA display and packs 1.5 GHz Quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Indus OS that supports several Indian regional languages like in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, or others. It is dual SIM and offers 4G VoLTE service on top of other basic connectivity features. It features a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3MP selfie camera on the front. With all these less-powerful specifications, the 2,000mAh battery in Swipe Elite Star should easily give a day-long battery life. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right edge of the device.

Intex Aqua A4 – Rs. 3,579

The second largest Indian smartphone brands, Intex also came up with a new low-cost smartphone called Intex Aqua A4. It comes with polycarbonate shell along with thick bezels all around the display. It has a 4-inch display with WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and supports all the major Indian regional languages on the system level. It is powered by 32-bit Spreadtrum SC9832 quad-core processor. There is 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot. The Aqua A4 includes quite a few bloatware apps which further decreases the available storage on this device. Talking about the cameras, it features a 5MP shooter on the rear and a 2MP shooter on the front. The Intex Aqua A4 also supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE connectivity. It is backed by a 1,750mAh non-removable battery that should give a day long battery life with the mixed usage. It measures 125 x 64 x 11.2 mm and weighs 119.5 grams.
