List of Smartphones Expected to Get Android O Update
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
On March 21st, Google released the first ever developer preview of the upcoming Android O. The company introduced many new features with this new Android update. However, the early developer preview is limited to Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C devices. Yesterday at the Google I/O 2017, the company announced the developer preview 2 for the above mentioned devices and will also receive the future OTA updates. Leaving out the Google’s own hardware, the users with other devices can’t actually get the new Android O features before the public release. As of now, there is no official information about the public release of the Google O.

Looking at the past, we expect the Google O public release will happen along with the launch of second-gen Google Pixel devices. Below is the list of the devices that are expected to receive the Android O update. We will be updating the list as we got more confirmed information from the manufacturers.
Since the Google’s own Nexus and Pixel devices already got the Android O developer preview, these devices will also be the first devices to receive the public release. If there is no agreement made with its partner manufacturers, the upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL should be the first devices to run on the all-new Android O out of the box. The Google Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 will be missing out the Android O update.

- Google Pixel 2 XL
- Google Pixel
- Google Pixel XL

Motorola
Motorola is the one manufacturer that has been constantly releasing the latest Android updates. However, the things have changed after the Lenovo acquisition. The Moto E3 Power which came with Android 6.0 marshmallow out of the box hasn’t even received a single update. Since most of the latest Moto devices came with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, we expect them to receive the Android O update in the first few months after its intial release.

LG
If you remember, the LG V20 launched in the second half of 2016, it is the world’s first smartphone to launch with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. This year, we will be expecting the LG V30 to launch at the same time as the new Google Pixel devices launch. However, there is no information whether the upcoming LG V30 will be the first device to run on Android O or not.
Huawei
Huawei releases the latest Android updates faster than other Chinese manufacturers. However, the company is much beyond the release dates of the other major manufacturers.
OnePlus
OnePlus has a very limited market reach and very limited device launches. Last year, the company launched the OnePlus 3 in the first half and OnePlus 3T with few internal changes in the second half. While the Chinese variants of OnePlus devices run on Hydrogen OS, the international variants get the Oxygen OS. Soon, we will also see the launch of OnePlus 5.
Blackberry
After Blackberry quitting the hardware business, we have seen a couple of decent smartphones that manufactured by its partners. Since the Blackberry will be offering software updates for all the latest Blackberry branded devices, we expect all the new devices to receive the latest Android O update.
Nokia
At the MWC 2017, Nokia re-entered the mobile phone market by launching the Nokia 3310 feature phone along with three Android-powered smartphones. All these devices come with Android Nougat out of the box.
HTC
Last year, HTC is one of the first manufacturers to put out the Android 7.0 Nougat roadmap. We expect the company continues the same trend for the Android O Update.
As we said before, we will be updating the above list once we got any sort of information about the other devices. We think the Android O will be called as Android Oreo. What would you name the upcoming Android O? Lets us know by leaving a comment below!
