OPPO Caught Faking the Benchmark Scores of Helio P60-Powered OPPO F7

OnePlus has been into controversies starting with the launch of OnePlus One. It caught faking the benchmark scores of the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5 smartphones. Now in 2018, its parent company is said to be faking the benchmark scores of its latest smartphone. Earlier this year, OPPO launched the OPPO F7 selfie smartphone in the Asian markets. It is the first smartphone to come powered by the MediaTek Helio P60 smartphone.

The Helio P60 uses the big.LITTLE architecture featuring four high-performance Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and four power-efficient Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The 12nm based Helio P60 comes coupled with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU clocked at 800MHz. According to the Genk.vn, the OPPO F7 is maxing out the performance of the Helio P60 when the user opens any benchmarking apps.

This happens even when the users don’t run any benchmark tests. To confirm these fake benchmark scores, the source had installed Hello World app with zero code and named the package as com.antutu.benchmark. Once this app is opened, all the eight cores are running at the 2.0GHz maximum speed. The company replied saying the NeuroPilot AI and APU’s are the reason for the processor to run at maximum clock speed.

While the Helio P60 is certainly powerful than the Snapdragon 636 processor, it doesn’t make sense for OPPO to fake these numbers. Along with OPPO and OnePlus, there are many other major brands like Samsung who caught doing the similar process.
