Xiaomi Might Launch Redmi S2 with 16MP Selfie Camera as Redmi Y2 in India
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi S2 budget smartphone in China. The Redmi S2 priced at 999 Yuan is the company’s most affordable smartphone with dual camera setup. On the design, it looks similar to the previously launched Redmi Note 5 Pro. Today, Xiaomi teased to launch a new smartphone under the Redmi Y-series in India on June 7th. We might see the Redmi Y2 on the launch day as the successor to last year’s Redmi Y1.
While there is no confirmation, the device in the teaser image looks quite similar to the Redmi S2. We expect the base variant of the Redmi Y2 to cost under Rs. 11,000. The device comes with a metal unibody design and sports a 5.99-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is the same old Snapdragon 625 processor that also powered several other Xiaomi devices. The device comes in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage
There is a triple card slot for adding two nano SIM cards and one MicroSD card. The Redmi S2 launched in China came with Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9 out of the box. It offered 12MP + 5MP dual cameras on the rear and a 16MP single camera on the front. The device is backed by a 3,080mAh non-removable battery measures 8.1 mm thickness. Xiaomi is also offering face unlock along with fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device.
Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, IR Blaster, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. We don’t think the company will be making any changes to the Redmi Y2 smartphone. Just like in China, the device should be available in Gold, Rose Gold, and Gray color options.
