Cheetah Mobile officially acquires News Republic App for $57 Million

The News Republic is an app that is on the similar lines of the Daily News, News Point & News Dog app that aggregate content from multiple sources. The app has 1650+ outlets for its news that it feeds to its users under different subscribed categories. Apart from this, the app also curates the trending information and sends them as notifications to the application users. The content is posted in 37 languages and 40 distinct country editions.

Now the latest information from our source confirms the acquisition of News Republic app by Cheetah Mobiles for $57 million. Cheetah Mobiles, Beijing-based mobile internet company is the developer of the popular Battery Doctor and Clean Master apps. Earlier the company also acquired the QuickPic Gallery app. In partnership with Cubot, Cheetah Mobiles also launched its first ever smartphone CheetahPhone at the MWC 2016.

The News Republic app is available for both Android and iOS users along with Samsung Gear S2 that runs on Tizen OS. By the end of 2015, the app had a user base of more than 12 million around the globe. It also partnered with few device manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Huawei, Acer, Wiki, Archos, and Wolder; where the News Republic app comes preloaded on their devices.

Recently it also won the “Best Mobile App for Media, Film, TV or Video” app at the GSMA 2016 Asia Mobile Awards. In May last year, it also collaborated with more than 29 publications in India to launched its Indian edition. Talking about the Cheetah Mobiles, it had announced $174.9 million revenue growth for 4Q 2015 which is 92.3% increased over the year-ago quarter.
