Alcatel Idol 4S Smartphone with Windows 10 OS & VR Support Leaked

Last month, the live images of the Alcatel Idol 4 Pro are leaked online confirming the earlier rumors. The device features flagship specifications and runs on the latest Windows 10 OS. Now we got even more credible news confirming the device name as Alcatel Idol 4S in the U.S where there is also an Android powered Idol 4S. The device will be sold through T-mobile and also comes with a VR headset included within the package. The Idol 4S was first unveiled at the MWC 2016 in February this year along with the mid-range Idol 4 smartphone and 10-inch Alcatel Plus 10 tablet powered by Windows 10 OS.

Though the Windows 10 powered smartphone is named same as Idol 4s running on Android OS, the rumors suggest the specifications to be different on both the variants. The Idol 4S running on Windows 10 OS comes with flagship specifications same as on the Blackberry DTEK 60 which is the rebranded TCL 950. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, TCL is also the parent company of the Alcatel brand. Based on the rumors, the Idol 4S with Windows 10 comes with a 2.5D glass on front and back. While the TCL 950 came with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution display, the Blackberry DTEK60 will feature a Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display.

The Idol 4S with Windows 10 might feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution. It offers much better VR experience than the Full HD resolution displays, but the question here is the quantity of the VR content on Windows 10 platform. Unlike iOS or Android, there aren’t many developers focusing on Windows OS, Microsoft is pushing the Windows 10 Mobile with the universal apps that run seamlessly on Desktop, Tablet, and Smartphone. Under the hood is the 64-bit Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor clocked at 2.15GHz and coupled with Adreno 530 GPU for better graphic performance.

It also includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, same as on TCL 950 and Blackberry DTEK60. Till date, HP Elite X3 is the only smartphone running on Windows 10 OS launched with Snapdragon 820 SoC and 4GB RAM. The Idol 4S also offers an expandable storage option upto 128GB. In the camera department, there is a 21MP IMX230 rear camera sensor with PDAF and auto focus. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture. While the multi-function key on Android can be customised to create a shortcut for certain apps, we don’t have any information about the purpose of this button on Windows 10 Mobile.

The device is backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery and it might also support Quick Charge 3.0. It offers NFC, 4G LTE along with other basic connectivity features. It comes with USB Type-C port and sports the 3.5mm audio port which is missing on few latest smartphones. The Idol 4S can be unlocked instantly with the fingerprint sensor or the facial recognition using Windows Hello feature. If this the rebranded Blackberry DTEK60 or the TCL 950, then we can expect HiFi audio with the dual stereo speakers.

On the other hand, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow powered Idol 4S came with Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. It has a 16MP rear camera with 4K video recording support and an 8MP front camera. Both the cameras are assisted by LED flash for capturing photos even in the low light conditions. It is powered by the same 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 support and MicroUSB 2.0 port. Since nothing is officially confirmed by the company, take this with a pinch of salt.
