Google Announces Daydream Virtual Reality Headset at $79, Availability in November
The Mountain View Giant announces their DayDream Virtual Reality handset at a Price tag of $79. Earlier at Google I/O event in May the company showcased their interest in creating a perfect affordable VR headset. At $79 it might not be most affordable, but looking at design and controller functionality, it seems reasonable price. It would be available for purchase later in November this year.
Google is going to unveil its new Daydream Virtual Reality headset today along with its new flagship phones. This is going to be the first ever daydream virtual reality headset from Google and it will be used with either of the two devices that are going to be unveiled. Reports suggest that the device could go on sale for $79 which is not yet confirmed.
In the Google I/O developer conference that was held in May, the Daydream was announced as a mobile VR platform and it is a VR extension of the Google’s Android operating system for mobiles. Unlike other devices, the Daydream optimised phones will automatically switch into VR mode when it is inserted into the Daydream headset. Even the Gear VR from Samsung will work similarly with selected devices.
The Daydream headset will use the phone as display and it won’t have a touchpad for navigation as we have seen on Samsungs’s mobile headset and instead it will come with a controller which will work like a Wi-Fi remote which will be tracking motion that could be used to track the motions and used for navigation as well.
Google is all set to unveil its two new flagship devices and according to the previous leaks the devices will be names as Pixel and Pixel XL which could be manufactured by HTC. Google also partnered with many companies to build Daydream-ready phones along with the Daydream headsets.
As mentioned earlier the pricing of the device could be priced at $79 and Samsung has priced its Gear VR for $99. After getting unveiled at the event today, the Google Daydream is likely to be shipped by this month end. These things could be taken with a bit of salt as nothing is officially announced by the company.
What do you think of this Daydream headset? Will you get this one? Will it be priced lower than other VR devices? Stay tuned to Phoneradar for more and we will get back with more news from the event.
