Vivo Y55L 4G VoLTE Smartphone with Metal Body & 2GB RAM Launched at Rs. 11,980
Vivo is one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in 2016. Along with OPPO, Vivo also listed in the top 5 smartphone manufacturers list for the first time in Q1 2016. While Vivo is the world’s first smartphone manufacturer to launch 6GB RAM smartphone, most of its recent high-end devices are only limited to the Chinese market. Unlike most of its Chinese counterparts, the company has a good offline presence even outside their home country. Today the company has officially launched its latest smartphone Vivo Y55L in India.
It is priced at Rs. 11,980 and comes with specifications which make the Y55L least powerful when compared to other Chinese smartphones at the similar price range. However, the availability of the device in the offline market makes it more accessible to the consumers when compared to the most Chinese smartphones that are sold via flash sales on online stores. But in the last few months, the online exclusive brands like Honor, YU, Xiaomi are making their way to the offline market. Recently, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 3S Plus exclusively to the Indian offline market.
The upcoming Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are also announced to be available via both online and offline stores. Talking about the Vivo Y55L, it was first spotted last month on TENAA along with two more variants Vivo Y55 and Vivo Y55N. While all the variants feature similar specifications, we expect the other variants to be limited to Chinese carriers. The Vivo Y55L sports an all-metal unibody design which is a decent upgrade considering the Vivo Y51 came with a polycarbonate body. It is also the most affordable Vivo smartphone to come with an all metal body.
The device sports a 5.2-inch IPS display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution with a 2.5D glass laid on top. It is powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded upto 128GB. It supports dual SIM dual standby and additionally comes with a MicroSD card slot which we are seeing rarely as most brands are opting for the hybrid SIM slots. The device comes with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and autofocus, while on the front is a 5MP fixed focus selfie camera.
It has the smart screen flash options which increase the screen brightness to the maximum while capturing selfies. The Apple introduced this feature with the launch of iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Recently WhatsApp also integrated this feature into their Android app. It is backed by a 2,650mAh non-removable battery that might not last more than a day of usage. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, GLONASS, and Micro USB 2.0 port. The device measures 147.9 x 72.9 x 7.5 mm and weighs 142 grams.
The Y55L runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based highly customised Funtouch OS 2.6. It has the smart split 2.0 feature that lets the users use two apps simultaneously side by side. This same feature will be coming as a built-in feature with the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. The Vivo Y55L will be available starting from October 15th in Gold and Grey color options. Last month, the company also launched the new Black color variant of the high-end Vivo X7 in China. It comes with a glossy finish similar to the Jet Black variant of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
