World’s First VR Smartphone from ProTruly Leaked, to Launch Soon
ProTruly is a China based technology company that is specialized in developing optical and electrical imaging technologies. A week back, the company has officially announced to launch its first ever smartphone soon in China. The device is mentioned to be the world’s first VR smartphone. Though there are no more details mentioned about the smartphone, today’s leaked images reveals some interesting information about the device. According to the company, their VR smartphone will carry the consumer’s great expectations while the mobile phone market is becoming saturated and technological innovation is becoming difficult to break.
The device can be used to for panoramic, three-dimensional (3D), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) imaging. The user can capture true 360-degree photos and videos using this smartphone. Whole camera enhancements will be developed by the ProTruly’s in-house team. The device sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED display and we expect it to come with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. It comes powered by MediaTek’s Helio X25 deca-core tri-cluster processor clocked at 2.5GHz and coupled with Mali-T880 GPU.
With the advanced sensors, the device can also detect the temperature of the farer objects. It might work just like the handheld infrared thermometer that can be found using in our heat test videos on Youtube. Talking about the design, the device looks totally different in the leaked images (above) and images posted (below) by the company. While there is no clear information regarding this, we might also expect these devices to be two different variants. Both the variants come with a convex lens on both front and rear. Though there are devices like Ricoh Theta and Samsung Gear 360 that does the same purpose, this will be the first time we will be seeing similar kind of cameras on smartphones.
The device with a slight camera bump are more prone to damages, and now the ProTruly VR smartphones with the convex lens will also be a costly affair in case of any damage. Apart from the 360-degree camera sensors, the device also offers a regular rear camera with dual tone LED flash. While the ProTruly’s smartphones will be the first VR smartphones, Lenovo has already launched the world’s first AR smartphone, Lenovo Phab 2 Pro for the public. It has a 16MP main camera along with depth and motion sensing cameras that can create augment reality content on display.
As the Tango technology came from Google, there will also be a great interest in developers to create apps using it. But coming to ProTruly devices, the in-house team looks after the camera software and hardware optimizations. We hope the output of the cameras on the World’s first VR smartphone to be same as mentioned in the company’s statement. Stay tuned on Phone Radar, as we will be covering more details about this device once the final product is released.
