Google Assistant coming to all smartphones running Android Marshmallow & above
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Google Assistant is the new Virtual AI assistant from Google, which the company first announced back in Google I/O 2016. Soon after that when it was launched officially, the assistant was only available in the Google‘s Pixel smartphone making it an exclusive feature for Pixel phones. While this was disappointing to many users, it was expected that the feature will eventually make it to most of the other Android smartphones. Well, the wait if over and now it has been reported that Google Assistant will be available to nearly all smartphones running Android Marshmallow and above.
As we all know, from an array of different products which Google has, the search is one of the most important one and they certainly know that. The Google Assistant was one of the most advanced interfaces which Google has built that uses the search and give results to the users in a most satisfying way. Having it run only on Pixel smartphone was definitely not doing the justice after all. Maybe they finally realized that they can cater to a whole lot of users if they lift the limitation. The result? The Google Assistant will now work for more people who are onboard the service.
However, according to the Google’s Developer dashboard, nearly about 30-percent of the smartphones are now running on Android version 6.0 and above. This is still a lot less than the total number that is out there but never the less, it is a step in the right direction. The feature will be made available to the users as a part of the Google App which means that an update will be pushed for the Google App and it will enable the Google Assistant on these smartphones.
According to Google, the Google Assistant will begin rolling out the English users in the U.S. This will be followed by English in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, as well as German speakers in Germany. The company also states that they will be adding more languages over time in coming years. With that said, the update might take some time to show up for you on your smartphone, hence we suggest you stay patient and wait for it. Having said that, it would be interesting to see how many users are actually going to use it once they have the feature.
