Along with Xperia XZ Premium flagship smartphone, Sony also unveiled the new Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra smartphones. Both these devices will replace the last year’s Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra. While all the smartphone manufacturers are going all out with their top notch camera capabilities, the maker of best-known camera sensors, Sony is now offering something even better with both the new Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra smartphones. Both the Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra smartphones will be running on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with the customized Xperia UI laid on top. The device will be coming in White, Black, Gold, and Pink color options.
Sony Xperia XA1
The Xperia XA1 is the compact device among the two with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display. There are very thin bezels on either side of the display, but the device is too large with the thick bezels on top and bottom of the device. As rumors suggested, the device comes with 64-bit MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and coupled with Mali T-880 MP2 GPU. It packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage on this device. The device comes in single SIM and dual SIM variants and has a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB.
Talking about the cameras, there is a 23MP Exmor RS sensor on the rear with Hybrid Autofocus and LED flash. But the device is only limited to recording videos at Full HD resolution. For selfies, there is an 8MP auto focus front camera with f/2.0 aperture and wide-angle lens. With all decent mid-range specifications, the Xperia XA is backed by a 2,300mAh battery that comes with MediaTek’s Pump Express+ 2.0 fast charging technology. It measures 145 x 67 x 8 mm and weighs 143 grams. Interesting, the Xperia XA1 misses out the fingerprint sensor but continues to offer the dedicated shutter button.
Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra
As seen on the Xperia Ultra, the Xperia XA1 Ultra also comes with a large 6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) edge-to-edge display. The device comes with a metal built body and a 2.5D curved glass on the front. It is also powered by the 2.3GHz Helio P20 octa-core processor and includes 4GB of RAM. The device comes in 32GB and 64GB storage variants along with a MicroSD card for further expansion of storage. Apart from upgrading the specifications, there are no major changes in the design of XA1 Ultra and its predecessor. Even with all these high-end specifications, the device still misses the fingerprint sensor.
The rear camera with a 23MP sensor is the same which we also get on the Xperia XA1. It comes with f/2.0 aperture and supports HDR for photos. The selfie camera which is the USP of the XA Ultra is now continued to the XA1 Ultra. There is a 16MP front camera with not only autofocus but also Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Both the front and rear camera are accompanied with LED flash. With a large 6-inch form factor, the Xperia XA1 Ultra comes with a slightly bigger 2,700mAh non-removable battery. It measures 165 x 79 x 8.1 mm and weighs 188 grams.
Pricing and Availability
Both the Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra will go on sale starting from Spring 2017. However, there is no word on pricing of these devices. We will update with the pricing of both these devices once we get the details from official sources.
