After disrupting the Sub-Rs. 10,000 price segment, Chinese smartphone manufacturers are now more focusing at a slightly higher price bracket. We have a few devices launched in the month of April and interestingly, a couple of these devices are sold through offline retailers as well. All the below-mentioned devices support 4G VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and can be used with the Jio 4G SIM.
Sony Xperia XA1 – Rs. 19,999
At the MWC 2017, Sony unveiled the new Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra smartphones. Last month, the company launched only the Xperia XA1 in India for Rs. 19,999. As seen with its predecessor, the Xperia XA1 also comes with thin bezels on the sides and a large chunk of space on the top and bottom bezels. It sports a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display with Gorilla Glass protection on top. The device packs a MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz. It also includes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. The USP of the device is its cameras, there is a 23MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, hybrid autofocus, and LED flash. For selfies, there is an 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture nad 23mm wide-angle lens. The Xperia XA1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with the customized Xperia UI laid on top. Though the device lacks fingerprint sensor, the connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, 3,5mm Audio port, and a USB Type-C port.
Vivo V5S – Rs. 18,990
Vivo V5S is the latest smartphone from one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands, Vivo. Apart from minor changes, the Vivo V5S is the same Vivo V5 that was launched earlier this year. It is priced at Rs. 18,990 and comes in Crown Gold and Matte Black color options. The new V5S comes with 64GB of onboard storage which is doubled than the what offered with the Vivo V5. It comes with a 5.5-inch HD display and is powered by MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor. The 4GB of RAM on this device should handle most of the usage and even the graphic intensive games. On the front of this device is a 20MP selfie camera with a f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. The primary camera on the rear sports a 13MP sensor with PDAF and LED flash. The company is also offering AK4376 audio chip for Hi-Fi audio output. The device supports dual SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM slot where the user can opt for a MicroSD card instead of the secondary SIM. It measures 153.8 x 75.5 x 7.55 mm and weighs 154 grams.
Samsung Galaxy On NXT – Rs. 18,490
Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy On NXT smartphone in India for Rs. 18,490. Recently, the company a new variant of the Galaxy On NXT with 64GB of onboard storage. It comes in Gold and Black color options and is sold exclusively through Flipkart for Rs. 16,900. Apart from the doubled storage, rest of the specifications remain same on both the variants. It comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with the 2.5D Gorilla Glass laid on top. Under the hood is the in-house Exynos 7870 octa-core processor coupled with Mali T830 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Even six months after its official launch, the device still runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. As of now, there is no information about the Nougat update for this device. In the camera department, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture and LED flash and an 8MP selfie camera on the front with the same f/1.9 aperture. The home button on the front also comes integrated with a fingerprint sensor. It is backed by a 3,300mAh non-removable battery and measures 8mm thickness.
Gionee A1 – Rs. 19,999
As teased earlier, Gionee launched the camera-centric Gionee A1 and A1 Plus smartphones at the MWC 2017. In less than a month after announcing the device, the Chinese company launched the Gionee A1 smartphone in India for Rs. 19,999. The device is assembled in India under the ‘Make in India’ campaign. It comes with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display offering Full HD resolution. Under the hood is the year’s old Helio P10 octa-core processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Interestingly, the Gionee A1 runs on Amigo UI based on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Talking about the camera sensors on this device, there is a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 16MP front camera for selfies. Gionee is also offering LED flash for both the front and rear cameras. This is also the company’s first Gionee smartphone to feature front-facing home button with fingerprint sensor. With all these specifications, the device is kept powered on by a 4,010 non-removable battery. The device will be sold across India through offline retail stores and will be available in Gold, Black and Grey color options.
Apple iPhone SE – from Rs. 19,999
Just before announcing the 32GB and 128GB storage variants of the iPhone SE, a huge price cut was announced for the 16GB variant. The device is currently retailing for Rs. 21,499 without any offers, but the effective price is coming down to Rs. 19,999 after adding the cash back and other offers from the retailers. The iPhone SE looks exactly same as the iPhone 5S and but sports upgraded internals. It runs on iOS 9 and is eligible for iOS 10 update. The software support can be expected at least for another couple of years. Under the hood is the Apple A9 Chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. There is a 12MP sensor on the rear and a 1.2MP sensor on the front. The Touch ID enhances the security of this device and can be used for Apple Pay once it is launched in India. It comes in Space Grey, Gold, Rose Gold, and Silver color options. The new 32GB and 128GB variants of the iPhone SE be available in stock from next month. The 32GB variant will be priced at Rs. 27,200 whereas the 128GB comes with a price tag of Rs. 37,200.
