LG V30 Expected to Feature Patented Full Screen Display with a Camera Cut-out

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

A couple of weeks back, we have reported about the upcoming Sharp Aquos R Compact smartphone that sports a curved bezel-less display. While there are already a few smartphones with the same bezel-less display with curved corners, the Sharp Aquos R Compact came with a cut-out for the front camera on the top side of the display. LG has patented the similarly designed display with the South Korea’s Intellectual Property Rights Information Service back in November 2016. Even Samsung had earlier patented the bendable display which can turn the tablet into a smartphone.

Earlier to this, the complete bezel-less display from Xiaomi and Sharp featured the front camera on the bottom bezel. Though it looks awkward, it served its purpose by turning the screen the upside down when the camera app is opened. Talking about the new design, the upcoming LG V30 might be using the newly patented display, since the earlier launched LG V10 and LG V20 came with a secondary ticker display. The bottom part of the display looks similar to the Full Vision display on the LG G6 with rounded edges.

While the Sharp Aquos R Compact has the notification icons along with time, battery and carrier signal information on either side of the camera, the images from the LG’s patent reveal that top part to offer the same functionality as the ticker display on the LG V10 and V20. Apart from the app shortcuts, the user might also add custom text, quick settings, and few other options. Since there is no place for the home button, the upcoming LG devices might also continue to use the rear facing circular home button with integrated fingerprint sensor.

At the Google I/O 2017, the tech giant confirmed the upcoming LG flagship along with the Galaxy S8 & S8 Plus will get the Daydream support. The recently launched LG G6 came out to be a much better device than the many other flagships, but it fell flat in front of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. Samsung’s Galaxy S8 devices came with infinity display featuring smaller bezels and curved edges on both the sides. In the second half of this year, the LG V30 will be battling with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Interestingly, both the device are expected to feature dual rear cameras. The recently launched LG G6 came with the last year’s Snapdragon 821 SoC and upcoming LG V30 will be using the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details about the LG’s upcoming smartphones.
