The affordable smartphones are getting better with the fierce competition among the manufacturers. While the major Chinese brands are now more focused on the mid-range segment, the newly entered Chinese brands are bringing low-cost 4G VoLTE smartphones to capture the market share. JioPhone

Reliance’s 4G VoLTE feature phone, JioPhone will be available for beta testing from August 15th. The pre-orders for the device begin on August 24th, and the customers can pre-book through MyJio app or Jio Store by paying the refundable deposit amount of Rs. 1,500. The JioPhone comes with 2.4-inch display and runs on KaiOS based on abandoned Firefox OS. As of now, there is no information about the complete specifications of the device. The device will be powered by the Snapdragon or the Spreadtrum processor. The JioPhone also includes a built-in NFC chip to offer touch and go payments, but it will be enabled later via software update. It also supports screen mirroring for watching the content from the phone on the TV. However, the user has to opt for Rs. 309 monthly plan to get the screen mirroring option. The basic monthly plan costs Rs. 153 and comes with unlimited 4G data (FUP @ 500MB/day), voice calls, and SMS. The Rs. 309 plan offers the same benefits as the Rs. 153 plan, but the FUP increases to 1GB per day.

iVoomi Me4

The iVoomi is the new Chinese smartphone brand to enter the Indian market in 2017. The iVoomi Me4 is company’s latest entry-level smartphone priced at just Rs. 3,499. It comes with a 4.55-inch display offering FWGA (854 x 480 pixels) resolution. It is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek processor quad-core clocked at 1.1 GHz. There is 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It even includes a dedicated MicroSD card slot for storage expansion additionally up to 64GB. The iVoomi Me4 is also one of the few affordable smartphones to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. There is a 5MP shooter on the rear with LED flash and another 5MP shooter on the front for selfies. It supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE connectivity. With all these basic specifications, the 2,000mAh battery on this device should give decent battery life. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device. It measures 136 x 66.8 x 10.2 mm and weighs 113 grams.

iVoomi Me5

The iVoomi Me5 is another budget smartphone to launch alongside the iVoomi Me4. Compared to Me4, the Me5 comes with a bigger display and better specifications. It also costs slightly higher at Rs. 4,499 and comes in Champagne Gold and Carbon Black color options. On the front is a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display with a 2.5D curved glass on top. It houses the Spreadtrum SC9832 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and comes coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Just like the Me4, the Me5 also runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and supports dual SIM dual standby. While the rear camera is upgraded from 5MP to an 8MP sensor, the selfie camera remains same with the 5MP sensor. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. With the bigger form factor, the iVoomi Me5 also packs a bigger 3,000mAh battery. It also supports 22 Indian regional languages on the system level.

LYF C459

Reliance’s 4G smartphone brand, LYF has launched a new entry-level smartphone called LYF C459. It is priced at just Rs. 4,699 and come with basic specifications. Just like any other LYF smartphone, the LYF C459 also supports VoLTE for using with the Jio 4G SIM. In terms of design, the device looks similar to the Wind 7 smartphones but comes in a slightly smaller form factor. It sports a 4.5-inch IPS display with FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) and is protected by Asahi Dragontrail Glass. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It comes coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. There is also a MicroSD card slot storage expansion. It runs on years old Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and might not receive any software updates in the near future. The device comes with a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies and video calls. It is backed by a 2,000mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 8 hours of talk time and lasts up to 160 hours of standby.

Lephone W2

LePhone is yet another new entrant in the Indian smartphone market. The company newly launched the LePhone W2 smartphone for Rs. 3,999. Unlike many other Chinese brands, LePhone is selling this new affordable smartphone through the offline market. The device comes with a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) display on the front. Just like any other entry-level smartphones, the LePhone W2 also comes with thick bezels on all the four sides. It includes an unspecified quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. The device packs 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. In the camera department, there is a 2MP camera on the rear and a VGA camera on the front for selfies. On the connectivity front, the LePhone W2 offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. It runs on year’s old Android 6.0 Marshmallow based 360 OS out of the box. The device will be available in Black, Golden, Rose Gold, and White + Gold color options.
