Best Upcoming Smartphones of October 2017 – Expected Specs & Features

In the last couple of months, we have witnessed the global smartphone launches from most of the major manufacturers. Google and Huawei are still left out to unveil their devices. However, the leaks have already revealed most of the key details of these upcoming smartphones. Coming to the Indian smartphone market, there will be few local launches of the devices which are already announced on the global stage. Apart from these flagship devices, we also expect to see several affordable smartphone launches in the month of October.

Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, & Mate 10 Lite

Huawei has recently launched the Maimang 6 in China with 18:9 display & four cameras. This same device will be launched on October 16th as Mate 10 Lite for the international markets. The Mate 10 Lite will be the most affordable device among the four Mate 10 devices. All these upcoming devices will feature dual camera setup on the rear and might even come with dual front cameras. While the Mate 10 Lite will be coming 5.99-inch Full HD+ display, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will sport the same 5.99-inch but offers Quad HD+ resolution. A few rumors also suggest the devices to run on Android 8.0 Oreo based EMUI 5.1 out of the box. The high-end Mate 10 Pro will be powered by Mate 10 Pro by the newly Kirin 970 octa-core processor built-on 10nm architecture. It comes coupled with Mali-G72 12-core GPU and a dedicated NPU. The company is also teasing about the AI features which will be offered with the Kirin 970 powered devices.

Google Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL

Google confirmed the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL to launch on October 4th. Both these devices will be successors to first-gen Pixel devices launched in 2016. The recent leaks confirmed the storage options and pricing of these two upcoming devices. Both the devices come in 64Gb and 128GB storage options. While Pixel 2 pricing starts from $649, the base variant of the Pixel 2 XL will cost $849. Unlike last year, the two Pixel 2 devices will come from two different manufacturers. The Pixel 2 will be manufactured by HTC and comes with almost similar design as on the first-gen Pixel devices. It also comes with Active Edge features which works same as the Edge Sense on HTC U11. On the other hand, the LG-made Pixel 2 XL will be featuring the FullVision display with 18:9 aspect ratio and Quad HD OLED panel. Both the smartphones will come powered by Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU & 4GB of RAM. As per the rumors, the devices will be running on Android 8.0.1 Oreo out of the box. Alongside the Google Pixel 2 smartphones, the company will also unveil the Home Mini with Google Assistant and also a PixelBook with Pixel Pen.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2

In early September, Xiaomi launched the Mi MIX 2 and Mi Note 3 smartphones in China. Just after the Chinese launch, the company also confirmed the Mi MIX 2 to be soon available in the Indian market. However, there is no other information about the India launch of the Mi MIX 2. Talking about its specifications, the smartphone comes with a 5.99-inch three-sided bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution. While the iPhone X came with a notch on the top, the Mi MIX 2 with the thin bottom bezel offers a clean look. Just like its predecessor, the Mi MIX 2 also comes with a ceramic body. Xiaomi also announced the special edition Mi MIX 2 with a unibody design made up of ceramic. It is powered by Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and 6GB/8GB of RAM. In the camera department, there is a 12MP rear camera with 4-axis OIS and a 5MP front camera with the facial recognition feature.

Motorola Moto X4

At the IFA 2017, Motorola has officially launched the Moto X4 smartphone in Europe. Recently, the company launched the Moto X4 Android One edition in the U.S on Google Fi network. Talking about the availability in India, the company has already confirmed to launch this device in India on October 3rd. The Indian pricing and local availability of the device will be known only on the launch day. The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display and comes powered by 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor. While the Moto G5s Plus came with 13MP + 13MP dual rear cameras, the Moto X4 comes with 12MP + 8MP camera setup. There is also a 16MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash for selfies. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery and supports TurboPower fast charging technology which will give six hours of usage in just 15 minutes. It is also water and dust resistant, thanks to the IP68 certification.

Apple iPhone X

The iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus are now available to pre-order and there are some great offers while pre-booking online. However, the pre-orders for the all-screen iPhone X will begin from October 27th and will go on sale from November 2nd. In India, the 64GB and 256GB models of the iPhone X will cost Rs. 87,000 and Rs. 1,02,000 respectively. This special edition is the first from Apple to feature an all-screen OLED display. The iPhone X also misses the Touch ID, instead, it comes with the all-new Face ID. Just like iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone X also comes with a glass body and support fast charging and wireless charging. The smartphones are also IP67 certified, making them water and dust resistant. It comes powered by the Apple A11 Bionic hexa-core chipset coupled with the Apple-made GPU and dedicated Neural engine. On the rear of the device is the 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras with 2x optical zoom, Portrait Lighting, Dual OIS, and Quad-LED flash.

Honor 9

Back in June, Honor launched its new flagship smartphone dubbed Honor 9 in China. While the initial leaks suggested the India launch to happen in August, we expect it to go official in the next few weeks. Just like its predecessor, the Honor 9 will also come with Aluminum frame and light-catching glass finish. This new smartphone sports a physical home button on the front that also comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor. It sports a 5.15-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) display with a 2.5D curved glass on the top. Under the hood is the 2.4GHz Kirin 960 octa-core processor coupled with Mali-G71 MP8 GPU. In China, the company launched the Honor 9 with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. On the rear is the 20MP + 12MP dual camera setup with Laser autofocus, PDAF, and dual tone LED flash. There is also an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture for selfies. It is backed by a 3,200mAh non-removable battery and includes 18W fast charging support.
