Panasonic India has launched yet another affordable smartphone under Rs. 10,000. The new Panasonic P99 is the successor to last year’s Panasonic P88. It is priced at Rs. 7,490 and comes in Champagne Gold, Black, and Blue color options. The smartphone will be sold through offline retail stores across the country. Earlier this week, the company launched the Eluga I4 smartphone for Rs. 8,290 in India. Both the devices share similar specifications but come with a completely different design. While the Eluga I4 came with a metal body, the Panasonic P99 sports a polycarbonate shell.
The new device also lacks the fingerprint sensor. It comes with three capacitive navigation buttons placed beneath the display. Talking about the specifications, it sports a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display and is powered by MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor clocked at 1.25GHz. As seen on the Eluga I4, this new device also features a 2.5D curved glass on the top. There is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expandable up to 128GB via a MicroSD card. The device also supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE connectivity.
It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. In terms of optics, there is an 8MP camera on the rear with LED flash and a 5MP camera on the front for selfies. While the Eluga I4 with the same 5-inch came with a 3,000mAh battery, the Panasonic P99 features a smaller 2,000mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 3.5mm audio port, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. The smartphone measures 144.6 × 71.8 × 8.6 mm and weighs 145 grams. Both the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device.
During the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale, Panasonic launched the Eluga Ray 500 and Eluga Ray 700 for Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 9,999 respectively. Both these devices come with metal body and sports a front-facing home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor. The devices run on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and the company opted for the stock Android UI instead of the in-house tweaked UI. The Eluga Ray 500 is also the most affordable dual camera smartphone in the India. It sports a 13MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 8MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture on the rear.
