We have seen a bunch of different smartphones this year that runs the Helio P10 Soc. This SoC is developed by MediaTek and is now powering a lot of devices, especially the ones who launched this year. These smartphones come from some of the major manufacturers like Sony, HTC, Oppo, Huawei, Meizu, etc. Well, we don’t have to discuss much the processor now as we all know how powerful it is. The best examples are some of the devices running it like the Oppo R9 and R9 PLUS.
Well, now it looks like UMi is also getting onboard the game as the company has now signed a deal with MediaTek for the first ever implementation of the helio P20 SoC. Yes, the new smartphone from the company will be running on the latest and greatest Helio P20 SoC. This new SoC will be powering the upcoming UMi Plus “Extreme” variant from UMi. So we now have the best reason to look forward to this device.
As we all know that the company launched the new UMi Plus smartphone just recently. It packed some serious specs under the hood for the price at which it was offered. As far as the specs are concerned, the device comes with a 5.5-inches display on the front. The device is powered by an Helio P10 Octa-core processor, and it packs 4GB of RAM and has 32GB of internal storage as well. So now the new extreme version of this will be powered by the new Helio P20 SoC.
The Helio P20 will come with a with an increase in frequency on the 8 Cortex A53 cores. The performance cluster is now clocked in at 2.3GHz instead of 2.0, with a 20% higher performance. On the GPU side, the Mali T860MP2 has been upgraded to a T880MP2 and clocks have been raised 200MHz to 900MHz, for a 25% upgrade over P10. The multimedia blocks also see some enhancement in their capabilities and can now decode and encode in 4K. The ISP has also seen upgrades and now has more processing power to support up to 24MP single cameras or 13+13MP dual cameras.
Finally, the biggest news here is that the P20 is manufactured on a 16nm FinFET node, for lower power consumption and less heat. Well, we are looking at a seriously upgraded SoC here. Well, as far as the other specs of the device are concerned, it is expected that along with the helio P20, it will also come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
