Sony Xperia X Performance & Xperia XZ to Receive Android 7.0 Nougat Update in October
The LG V20 is the world’s first smartphone to launch with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The latest Android is also available for selected Nexus and Android One smartphones. While we won’t see faster OS updates from most of the Android manufacturers, there are few brands like Moto, HTC, Sony and OnePlus who brings faster updates to their devices, though these are limited only to high-end devices. While we have a whole list of smartphones that are receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update, now we got some additional information regarding the Sony Xperia smartphones.
The recently launched flagship Xperia XZ along with the Xperia X Performance are the first set of Sony devices to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The Android N rollout for both these devices starts from October. The Xperia X and Xperia X Compact are the second set of devices that will receive the update in November. While the Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra that are unveiled at the MWC 2016 will get the latest Android Nougat update only in 2017.
Last year’s Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+ (Xperia Z4), and Xperia Z4 tablet will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in December this year. The timeline mentioned for the Android Nougat update is only for the devices with no contract, while the Xperia devices in the U.S and other westren countries need to wait a little longer as the updates require carrier approval. Also take this with a pinch of salt as Sony is yet to officially confirm these details.
As there are no details about the latest Android update for other Xperia devices. We may not see the Android Nougat update for Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia M5, Xperia C4, and Xperia C5 Ultra smartphones. Sony India will be soon launching the Xperia XZ in India. The device is already available for pre-registartion on the compnay’s indian website. Though the we may not see the Android 7.0 Nougat by the time of India launch, but we expect to listen some sort of confirmation at the launch event. Stay tuned for more updates!
