Vodafone Launches Vodafone Play App, Offers Three Months Premium Subscription for Free
Up until Reliance Jio, there was no telecom giant who had a set of premium apps offering services from account usage to streaming live TV, listening to music to watching movies. With exception of few use cases from Airtel, before Jio has arrived there wasn’t such offering from any telecom giant. For those who don’t know, Jio has eleven premium applications including for music, magazine, movies, chat, cloud storage, live TV, wallet, security, newspaper and couple more.
Vodafone, one of the largest Telecom giant in the country has released their new application called Vodafone Play. It is company’s move to take on the Jio’s free apps service. Since apps are a great way to offer exclusive content to the loyal customers, it is also considered to be an attempt to keep users on their website and network as well as consume data. This new application is released specifically for 4G subscribers of the Vodafone. For the first three months, users get a free subscription to the app and it’s partner apps. Do make a note that 3G subscribers aren’t left behind as they are being offered a free subscription for a month’s period.

Unlike Jio apps that have dedicated content, the Vodafone Play is quote unimpressive because it resembles a mirror site. And there is no content of their own, instead, the app redirects you to other applications such as Ditto TV, Hungama Play, Sony Liv, Hooq etc. These are all partner application offering a range of services such as live streaming TV, movies and music. All these have to be downloaded separately on your smartphones to make use of the subscription.
While comparing it with Jio suite of apps, they have a total of 11 apps that are separately available on Google Play Store. The main attraction in these apps is the content. The apps pack million of latest soundtracks, thousands of movie titles and hundreds of live TV channels streaming. With separate apps offering decent functionality. While the argument about the interface is one thing offering a good library content is another, although, both are important for good user experience.
Talking about the pricing, the Vodafone Play would cost you a lot, unlike Jio services. Vodafone might be free till the end of 2016, the pricing afterwards decides the fate of the apps. We have covered a detailed report on the pricing of Jio Apps from January 1st, 2017, while if you are a LYF handset owner, it is extended till December 2017. It can be said that Jio apps would be costly, but if you’re someone looking at having a good experience, then it might be worth it. On the other hand, paying Rs 450/ Month for Vodafone Play doesn’t seem to be a quite interesting option.
