5″ Xiaomi Smartphone Spotted on TENAA, Expected to be Redmi 5

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

In this new year, Xiaomi has already launched two smartphones, one each in India and China. While the company launched the Redmi Note 4 in India, in China, it unveiled the Redmi Note 4X along with the limited edition ‘Hatsune Miku’ variant. Now, a new Xiaomi smartphone with entry-level specifications is listed on TENAA. The device comes with the model number MAE136. It sports a 5-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. As seen with the earlier launched Redmi smartphones, we expect this device to be the successor to the Redmi 4, and it shares the same design as of Redmi 4A.

While we expect this to be the Xiaomi Redmi 5, few sources from China also suggest the MAE136 to be the Redmi 4X. The device comes with a metal body and includes plastic caps on the top and bottom rear. It is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There will also be a 2GB RAM variant with 16GB of onboard storage. Talking about the cameras, there is a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. Though the processor is unknown, rest of the specifications are same as we have seen on the Redmi 3S and Redmi 4 smartphones.

Even the company is sticking to a 4,000mAh to 4,100mAh battery for its Redmi series smartphones. Though the internals remains same, externally, the device looks completely different to its predecessors. We can also the see a circular fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device. The volume rocker and power button are placed on right edge whereas the hybrid SIM slot is on the left edge. It measures 139.24 × 69.94 × 8.65 mm and might feel a bit heavy by weighing almost 150 grams. According to the listing, the device will be available in Gold, Rose Gold, Matte Black, and Dark Gray color options.

Next month, the company is also expected to launch the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 smartphone in China. Last year, the Mi 5 was launched at the MWC 2016, but this year, the company has already confirmed not to attend the event. Recently, there are also few rumors hinting the Mi 6 to come with flat display panel instead of the curved panel as seen on the Mi Note 2. We might also see a Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) display instead of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) to make the device compatible with Google’s Daydream VR.

As of now, there is no confirmation whether the device will be using the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC or not. The LG G6 which is confirmed to launch at the MWC is said to come with Snapdragon 821 SoC which is an upgraded variant of the Snapdragon 820 SoC. While the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be launched in few weeks time, there is no information about the Redmi 5 smartphone launch. Along with the Redmi 5, we might also see the Redmi Note 5, the successor to the already popular Redmi Note 4.
