Apple is likely to switch to glass-film touch display for the Apple Watch Series 3

Apple launched the Apple Watch series 2 last year along with the new iPhones. The series 2 Apple watches shipped with touch on lens touch panels which is a type of technology used for the touchscreen of the watch. This type of touchscreen uses two pieces of glass. However, we now have new reports which claim that the company will make a switch to a different type of display for the Apple Watch series 3 smartwatches. It looks like the Apple will go for a glass film touch solution instead. This is the very piece of information which we have received about the Apple Watch series 3.

According to the source, TPK Holdings, the company which produced the panels for the Apple Watch series 2, found that the yield rates were low for the touch on lens. Apparently, the curved screen was the main issue, and the yields stayed low throughout the duration. The company has now stopped supplying glass panels to the Cupertino tech giant and has moved to making 3D sensor-based touch panels for smartphones with OLED displays to make some profits. Hence it looks like Apple has decided to move to a completely different form of panel for the Apple Watch Series 3.

It has been reported that Apple will be turning it heads towards General Interface Solutions, a company which is based out of Taiwan or maybe Biel Crystal Manufactory, based out of Hong Kong. While the details on the same are not confirmed yet, it is highly possible that the company will make the switch. We are not sure if this will affect the pricing of the smartwatch in any way and hence we will have to wait a bit longer to get more info on that. Reports also state that the shipments of the new displays will happen in the latter half of this year.

If rumors are to be believed, the Apple Watch series 3 will debut by the third quarter of this year, which is ideal since the shipments will arrive by the second half. And talking about the changes of the Apple Watch 3, it looks like we will be getting a couple of new improved features like an Always on display, sleep tracking. Even better battery life is expected for cellular connectivity. All things said we hope the Series 3 is a better upgrade since most people thought that the Series 2 could have been even better with more changes.
