Honor 6x – Top Phone Tips, Hidden Options & Useful Tricks

The Honor 6x is the latest affordable mid-ranged smartphone from Honor which is a sub-brand of Huawei. As the name indicated, this is a successor to the last year’s mid-ranger, the Honor 5x. While there are a lot of similarities between the Honor 5x and the Honor 6x, the company have indeed made a lot of hardware changes here which is noticeable from the first looks of it. However, these new changes that have been made to the phone make it a better bargain, and overall, it feels nice and solid in hand for most parts.

The Honor 6x comes with a 5.5″ FHD display which has a pixel density of approximately 403 pixels. The device is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 655 SoC which has an octa-core CPU along with Mali T380MP2 for GPU. Honor is selling two variants of this smartphone i.e. the one with 3GB RAM and the other one with 4GB RAM with 32GB or 64GB of storage respectively. The USP of the device, however, is located at the back of the device which is the dual rear camera setup. There is a 12MP rear-facing camera at the back which is coupled with another 2MP camera. The camera comes with PDAF and LED flash. On the front, there is also an 8MP selfie shooter, and the whole package is kept powered by a 3340 mAh battery.

The Honor 6x is a really good phone for the price and it packs a lot of interesting features. However, you need to make sure that you are taking full advantage of those features to make the most out of your device. Having said that, here are some of the tricks and some unique things about this smartphone, which you may or may not know.

Disable Accidental touches

One of the most annoying thing about a smartphone is that when the phone is in your pocket or bag, it may suffer from some accidental touches which are very annoying since most of the time, it automatically ends up dialing a random number, etc. Not the best thing right? Well, Honor acknowledges that problem and has given a solution to the users in the form of the ‘Disable Touch’ option. Turning this feature on will prevent your display to turn on when it is either in your pocket or when it is in your packet. How this works, it uses the ambient light sensor to detect the light falling onto it, and since it is in your bag/pocket and no light is falling on it, it will disable the screen until it is exposed out. This is undoubtedly a useful feature, and you can find this feature under Smart Assistance option in settings.

Notification/ Quick Settings drag option

The Notification/ Quick settings shade has a different setup in emotion UI where the Notifications are displayed on one page, and the quick settings are displayed in the other. While this is different and takes some time to get used to it, there are some unique ways with which you can access them. The option called Drag action allows you to drag the shade in two ways. If you select smart selection, then in that case, if you have any notification waiting for you, then it will take you to the notification shade. Otherwise, it will take you to the quick settings panel.

Another way to do is by selecting ‘determine from drag position’ which will bring down the quick setting if you pull from the right-hand side. This is something which was already being offered in CyanogenMod, and it definitely comes in handy. To access this option, simply go settings, and Notification panel and status bar option. Under that, you will find drag actions, where you can select either of these.

More settings for Home screen

In most smartphones, you simply pinch to get into the home screen settings to find your basic options like Wallpapers, etc. However, in Honor 6x, there are some additional features as well which will allow you to customize your device further. It gives options like selecting your home screen layout, auto-align which will align your app icons automatically. There is also an option called Shake which will realign your home screen icons. There are a couple of other options as well along with it which would help you customize your device better. To access these options, simply pinch to zoom out of the home screen and tap on more settings.

Fingerprint scanner Gestures

One of the best features which many people enjoy about the Huawei & Honor devices is the fingerprint scanner gestures. The fingerprint scanner on the Honor 6x has a lot of gestures which allows you to take photos, answer the calls, stop an alarm, etc. These are some of the standard options which you can find in most of the Huawei and Honor devices. This option is not hidden, but it is often neglected by most users even when it is such a useful feature.

Cancel Sent messages

This is one of those features which most of us wished it was in there on a lot of devices and it is called cancel sent messages. This would definitely come in handy on those occasions when you send a message by mistake where you mistyped something, or auto-correct option ruined the message for you, etc. Honor 6x gives you an option to cancel the sent message within 4 seconds after hitting the send button. You can double tap withing 4 seconds and cancel it. This is a life saver feature for most people, and you can find this option in messages and settings.

Customizing the Navigation bar

Most smartphones out there in the market, don’t let you do this although Honor 6x has this option for you to take advantage of it. This option gives a lot of freedom to the user, and you can customize your navigation bar however you want or in fact, add another option as well like lock screen option or the bringing down the notification shade. This option really comes in handy, and you can find it under settings and smart assistance option. From there you can customize from the navigation bar option.

Phone Manager

The Phone Manager is one of the prime features in Honor 6x smartphone which allows you to customize and monitor your device. However, there may be a time when you simply wants a couple of option laid outside on the home screen without having the need to go the phone manager app to look for them individually. Honor 6x allows you to that. In order to get this done, simply tap on the Phone Manager app and go to settings from the icon on the top right. From there you can select the individual shortcuts to be placed on the home screen which will allow you to easily access those options.

 

Storage Cleaner

This option can be found under advanced settings inside the memory and storage option. Here you will find the storage cleaner option, and this will help you clear certain things which aren’t really necessary anymore. Especially things like cached data which can build over time and keep eating up your memory. Once you are in this menu, you can simply tap on to the things which you want to clear, and it will automatically delete all the junk which is not needed anymore. This feature will allow you to make the most out of your storage and the fact that it is built right into your OS makes it very useful.
