HTC U Ultra Smartphone with Dual Displays to Debut in India on February 21

HTC announced the U Ultra and U Play smartphones under the new U series in January. Recently, the company also started taking pre-orders for both the devices in the UK. Now, HTC has sent out the press invites confirming the launch of HTC U Ultra smartphone in India on February 21st. As of now, only the U Ultra is confirmed to launch here in India, but we may also see the U Play on the launch day. Just like the earlier launched HTC 10 and HTC 10 Evo, the upcoming U Ultra will also come with a price tag higher than Rs. 50,000. The 64GB variant of the U Ultra costs £649 (approx $807 / Rs. 54,000) in the UK. HTC mentions the U Ultra to come with Liquid Surface body, which basically is a curved glass with reflective nature.

The HTC U Ultra comes with dual displays as seen on the LG V10 and V20 smartphones. While the 5.7-inch main display comes with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, the 2.0-inch secondary display offers 1040 x 160 pixels resolution. It sits beside the selfie camera placed on top of the main display. The company still opts for an LCD5 panel and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. There is also a high-end variant that comes with Sapphire Glass protection on the front. Under the hood, the U Ultra is powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.15 GHz and Adreno 530 GPU. Even the upcoming LG G6 is also rumored to use the last-gen Snapdragon 821 SoC.

It includes 4GB of RAM and comes in two variants with 64GB and 128GB storage options. There is also MicroSD card slot that accepts technically up to 2TB. On the front is a 16MP fixed focus selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera comes with a 12 MP Ultrapixel 2 sensor with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, Laser Autofocus, and OIS. HTC is also offering BoomSound speaker and four microphones for hi-res audio recording. With all these high-end specifications, the device is kept powered on by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery and supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.It is rated to deliver up to 26 hours of talk time and lasts up to 13 days in standby mode.

The device also runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with the HTC Sense UI on top. With the U series, the company also introduced its own digital assistant called Sense Companion. It works similar to Google Assistant and Amazon Echo with built-in voice recognition that can be accessed by saying a specific keyword. The secondary display on the top can be used for showing notifications, top contacts, and apps shortcuts. As seen on the HTC 10 Evo (a.k.a HTC Bolt), the HTC U Ultra also skips the 3.5mm audio port and comes with USB Type-C port for connecting headset using an adapter. We hope the company offers the HTC USonic headset free with the device in India.

The physical home button on the front features an integrated fingerprint sensor that can be used for authorizing payments. It also includes Proximity, G-sensor, Compass, Gyro, Magnetic, and Ambient light sensors. It measures 162.41 x 79.79 x 7.99 mm and weighs around 170 grams. The device supports dual SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM slot which accepts two nano SIMs or one nano-SIM and a MicroSD card. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and USB 3.1 Type-C port. On the company’s Indian website, the device is listed only in Black Oil
