Xiaomi’s In-house PineCore Processor to be Announced on February 28th

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

From the last few year’s, there are rumors about Xiaomi launching their own processor. It all started when the company launched the entry-level Redmi 2A smartphone with the Leadcore LC1860C processor. Though the company is then rumored to have worked with the low-cost chipmaker to make the affordable 4G processor, there is no official confirmation till date. However, in the last few weeks, we have been seeing the rumors about the Xiaomi’s in-house processor called PineCore after its website and Weibo page goes official with limited details. Today, the company has confirmed its plans for their own PineCore processors by sending the media invites for the launch event that will be held in Beijing, China on February 28th.

Apart from confirming the rumors and announcing the launch date, there is no other information mentioned by the company. After Apple, Samsung, and Huawei; now Xiaomi joins the league having their own smartphone processors. Next to Huawei, now Xiaomi becomes the second Chinese company to have the in-house processor. The rumors say the company will be debuting with an octa-core processor with eight Cortex-A53 cores. The long rumored Xiaomi Mi 5C might be the first Xiaomi smartphone to use the in-house processor. With not much growth from China, the Chinese companies have shifted their focus to the world’s second largest smartphone market, India.

Within just two years after entering the Indian market, Xiaomi has already made it to the top 5 list. Unlike Samsung or Huawei, we don’t think Xiaomi will be using the PineCore processor for their high-end devices. They might be mostly limited to the entry-level and mid-range devices. The PineCore processors will be manufactured by Beijing Pinecone Electronics which is controlled by Xiaomi and LeadCore Technology Ltd. With the PineCore processors, the company can offer the entry-level devices even at the much cheaper price. Unlike Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Samsung; Xiaomi might not be supplying the processor for other manufacturers at least in the beginning.

Since the company will be officially announcing the PineCore processors on January 28th. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
