This shattered iPhone 4s costs US $150,000 on eBay

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Apple iPhones are considered to be among the most expensive smartphones which money can buy. Last year’s iPhones can cost you as upwards of $900 if you go for the top of the line iPhone 7 Plus. However, if that is not enough for you if you want something more than that, then you should probably consider this iPhone 4s which is now available on eBay for about US $150,000. Yes, you read that right, it costs US $149,999.99 to be precise. While that sounds to be an absurd amount of money to be paid for an iPhone which is nearly about six years old, but there is something which makes it special.

Now when you take a look at the eBay listing, you will see that the glass on the front and back, both are shattered. So you might be thinking what is so special about it right? Well, just take a look at the back of the smartphone. You will see a custom back panel honoring the late Steve Jobs. The back of this iPhone reads “Steve Jobs 1955 – 2011, =” and in fact, the Apple logo which we are used to in Apple product is replaced with Steve Jobs face cutout. It has been reported that this particular logo was designed by Jonathan Mak who is a design student in Hong Kong.

Jonathan created the logo shortly after the death of Steve Jobs which went viral. However, unfortunately, this custom logo ended up as a rip off for all kinds of Apple products in the grey market. And talking about the grey market, most of the phone parts makers decided to use this on the replacement back panels. It looks like the seller who is trying to sell this iPhone 4s with a completely shattered back panel must have replaced the back panel with one of them from the grey market. In fact, if you search, you can find a ton of listing of this particular back panel with about $10-$15 price tag on them. Talking about the back panel, Goldgenie also came up with something like this. Goldgenie is a company which quite popular for making some expensive variants of iPhones & other Apple products.

After Steve Jobs death in 2011, Goldgenie launched a special edition iPhone 4s using a gold plated back panel with the same logo. They also made only 56 of them, which is what even the seller on eBay claims. Having said that, it is completely up to you now. You can either buy this so-called “Limited Edition” iPhone 4s from the seller or alternatively you can simply get one of those back panels and get it replaced. Let us know what do you think about this and would you be interested in spending so much money on something like this. Stay tuned to PhoneRadar for more such info.
