Calling 911 Emergency Number Reboots OnePlus 5 Smartphone – Check your Phone

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

Last month, OnePlus launched its 2017 flagship smartphone, OnePlus 5 with a premium price tag of $539. It came with the flagship specifications featuring dual camera setup and 8GB of RAM. However, there are a few reported issues like jelly scrolling effect, and manipulating benchmarks results. Now, a few users on Reddit pointed out another flaw in the OS where the OnePlus 5 will reboot when you tried to call the emergency number 911. Even calling the emergency number 999 in the UK also reboots the device.

While the OnePlus 5 users aren’t able to reach the emergency services, the number of reports are still in small numbers. The company responded saying they are looking into the issue and asked those are experiencing a similar situation to contact them at [email protected]. As of now, we don’t know all the OnePlus 5 devices are affected by this issue, trying calling 911 from your OnePlus and report the same to the OnePlus customer care. Below is the video showing the OnePlus 5 rebooting within few seconds after calling 911.

We can expect the company to release the software update once it finds a solution to this critical bug. A few users on Reddit mentioned the use of stock dialer is causing the issue. The app is trying to block the calls when it is asking for the GPS location. Instead of the stock dialer app, using the Google Dialer might resolve this issue. Since we haven’t tested out this method, we can’t guarantee this tweak will solve the issue.
