Yotaphone Launches YOTA3 Smartphone with Dual Displays & YOTA OS in China

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

After teasing from the last few weeks, the new YOTA3 (a.k.a YotaPhone 3) smartphone is officially launched today at an event held in China. It is the successor to two year’s old Yotaphone 2 and the first smartphone after Yotaphone has partnered with a Chinese company to manufacture the devices in China. Just like Yotaphone and Yotaphone 2, the new YOTA3 also comes with dual displays. While the first two variants failed to create interest among the users, the YOTA3 surely looks to compete with the other flagship devices.

While it will be sold as YOTA3 in Asia, the same device will be later launched in other markets as YotaPhone 3. The primary color display sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED panel and the secondary display placed on the rear is the 5.2-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) E-ink display. It uses the E-ink Carta 2 display which now supports multi-touch and comes with the anti-glare and anti-fingerprint coating. The E-ink display can be used for reading e-books and supports few apps like WeChat & QQ. It also shows time and notifications for calls, messages and other apps.

Under the hood, the device comes powered by the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The YOTA3 packs 4GB of RAM and will be available in 64GB and 128 GB storage options. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage. In the camera department, there is a 12MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture, 1.4μm pixel size, dual tone LED flash. On the front is a 13MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture for selfies and video calls.

It is backed by a 3,300mAh non-removable battery that also supports fast charging with the 9V/2A (18W) power adapter. The home button placed beneath the primary display also comes with an integrated fingerprint sensor. There is an additional sensor under the E-ink display to confirm which screen to be turned on when the device is unlocked. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with the Yota OS on top. The smartphone also supports dual SIM dual standby and offers 4G VoLTE connectivity.

As seen on many other 2017 flagship devices, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack on this device. Instead, it comes with a USB Type-C port for both charging and connecting headphones. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C port. It measures 153.6 x 75.2 x 7.9 mm and weighs around 179 grams. Talking about the pricing and availability, the YOTA3 ceremony version is priced at 4299 yuan. It will be available to pre-order starting today and sales will begin on September 26th.

The standard variant with 64GB and 128GB storage variant is priced at 3699 yuan and 4299 yuan respectively. These two variants will go on sale only in October. As of now, there is no information about the international availability. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
