Google Pixel XL (HTC Marlin) Camera leaks suggest better Sensors than last year
These days, few of the upcoming smartphones, are always in the news for some or the reason. Yesterday we saw reports about the new name for the upcoming Nexus Smartphones, and now we have some new leaks that suggest some interesting facts about the camera in Google Pixel XL. If you missed the news yesterday, then you might not be knowing that Google Pixel XL is the new name for the HTC Marlin (M1). And if you go by this latest leak that emerged in the form of a tweet, then this smartphone will Sony’s IMX378 sensor for the rear camera and the Sony’s IMX179 sensor for the selfie shooter.
Not much info is available about this alleged new sensors, but it is expected to be an upgraded version of the IMX278 sensors used in last years’ Nexus devices. And judging by the trend, it is expected that smaller Pixel smartphone will also have the same sensor. Since it looks like an upgraded version of the existing sensors, we can expect them to be very good. We all know that Nexus 5X & Nexus 6P both can take some good pictures. However, it is too early to speculate and hence we are going to drop the final judgement only after the official release. Meanwhile, stay tuned for more info on these devices.
HTC Nexus (M1) = Marlin = Pixel XL will be featured with Sony IMX378 (12mp) main camera and IMX179 (8mp) front camera.

Earlier: Google is getting ready to launch two Nexus variants in the second half of 2016, just like they did last year by launching Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5x. But according to reports, this year both the variants will be manufactured by same OEM, unlike last year. It is none other than HTC, the same company that built the Nexus 9 tablet. Last week we saw our first leaks on one of the two Nexus smartphones that HTC is developing for Google. Dubbed as “Sailfish”, it was the smaller of the two variants.
Now we have some new leaks for the other variant which is naturally going to be the bigger variant of the two. According to our source, we saw that these two devices are codenamed S1(Sailfish) and M1(Marlin). Looking at the leaked specification from the same source for Marlin, it appears that it will be somewhat similar to the smaller variant except minor changes. The new Nexus M1 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch QuadHD AMOLED display like last year but just a little smaller, as the Nexus 6P had a 5.7-inch display.
Under the hood, the Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor is expected to power this smartphone. However, we don’t have an exact model number for this, but it is expected that it’s going to be the revised Snapdragon 820, 823 or the rumored Snapdragon 821. Just like it’s younger brother, it is expected to sport a 4GB of RAM and will come with a 32GB or 128GB storage option. And on the camera side, we are again seeing a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, like the one which is expected on the Sailfish.
Other hardware specifications include a USB Type-C port, a 3,450 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device. This will be different as HTC puts its fingerprint scanner on the front usually as found on the HTC 10 etc. Another interesting news revealed by the source is that these two smartphones will share same design language. This will be something similar to what Apple does with its iPhones. Google is reportedly working on its own Nexus smartphone, which the company is manufacturing themselves.
We’re still months away from the official announcements of the devices, and we hope to get more clear idea about them soon in coming weeks. Stay tuned for more information.
