Samsung Galaxy Devices Might Support Fingerprint Gestures with Nougat Update
You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.
Most of the major smartphone manufacturers launched their recent high-end smartphones running on the latest Android Nougat OS. Few brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo, and Samsung are still in the beta testing stage, and the OTA update will be only available for high-end smartphones. Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus will be only mid-range smartphones to run on the latest Nougat OS. Talking about the Samsung devices, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be the first smartphone to taste the latest Android OS. Though the rumors suggested the final OTA update to be available a couple of weeks ago, it still stayed in the beta testing.
With the Nougat update, the company might change the name of the user interface from TouchWiz to Samsung Experience. The recently released the update for the users of Galaxy beta program brought few enhanced updates along with the December’s Android security patch. According to a reply received for one of the testers suggestion, the company has confirmed to be working on improving the features of the fingerprint sensor. This might work same as on the recently launched Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Google brought some features like accessing notification panel by swiping down on the fingerprint sensor.
However, these aren’t new as the Huawei’s EMUI offered the similar from the last couple of years. Few manufacturers adding the image capture functionality, where the fingerprint sensor acts as shutter button while the camera app is opened. While these functions work well with the rear-facing fingerprint sensor, it could look awkward on the front facing sensors as on the Samsung Galaxy devices. In case, the company brings these new features; they will be available for the new devices out of the box while the older devices which will get them through the Nougat based OTA update. The latest rumor is that the upcoming Galaxy S8 will feature the fingerprint on the rear.
At the MWC 2017, the company will be officially unveiling the new Galaxy S8 smartphones. Unlike the earlier devices, now the two new upcoming devices are said to come with the edge display leaving out the flat panel display for the mid-range devices. After launching the Note Edge in 2014 with one-sided Edge display, the Galaxy Note 7 launched in 2016 came with dual edge display same as on the Galaxy S7 Edge. With the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 chipset built on Samsung’s own 10nm architecture, we can expect the fingerprint sensor on Snapdragon 830 powered Galaxy S8 to work on par with the Exynos powered variant.
Since the company is yet to confirm these specifications, take them with a pinch of salt until there is an official announcement. This year, the company introduced the fingerprint with the Galaxy A and Galaxy On series smartphones. All the Samsung Galaxy devices that will be launched in 2017 are rumored to feature Samsung Pay app. Unlike the Apple Pay or Android Pay which works only with latest NFC-based payment terminals, the Samsung Pay even work with the old gen swiping terminals using the MST technology. Though Samsung Payment is yet to be launched here in India, with the current scenario, we guess this to be the right time to enter the Indian market.
