Samsung Galaxy S8 launch date, price & the Specifications we know till now

You are reading a story from PhoneRadar.

The South Korean smartphone manufacturer, Samsung, is currently working on what appears to be one of the most advanced smartphones that they have ever made and is also expected to be one of the best smartphones of the year 2017. Having said that, a lot of you might be wondering as to what is it about this smartphone that is making it stand out from the competition? And hence in order to answer this question, we decided to give you a round of everything that we know about the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Design

One of the first thing that comes to most people’s mind is the design of the smartphone more than anything else. And as far as the Galaxy S8’s design is concerned, it looks like we are going to see a very unusual design from Samsung. Here, unusual being the removal of the capacitive buttons on the front and going for onscreen buttons. Now, this could mean two things. One is that we will be seeing a huge display on the front to make room for the on-screen buttons and secondly a bezel-less approach. As you may or may not know, most smartphone manufacturers are taking this route now. Another major change which we will be seeing this year is that the fingerprint scanner will be moving to the back of the device from the front again to make room for the display. While all these seems like major sacrifices, the bezel-less, curved display will make room for ever-larger display sizes for better user experience.

Hardware compoments

Along with killer looks, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to new benchmark in terms of performance. But before we dive into the specs, it is worth knowing that two S8 variants are expected, i.e. one is S8 and the other one is S8 Plus. The S8 is expected to ship with 5.8″ display whereas the S8 Plus is expected to ship with 6.2″ QHD display and both of them we will be Super AMOLED as usual. Both the handsets will have curved edge display with an unusual aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Now coming to internals, depending on the region of purchase, these smartphones will either come powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC or an Exynos processor.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will be kept powered by a 3,000 mAh and a 3,500 mAh battery respectively. The company is also not expected to go crazy on RAM and hence these smartphones will have a baseline of 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of internal storage with 256GB space with microSD card expansion. Charging is said to happen via a USB Type-C port and it looks like Samsung is keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack alive.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S8 & the S8 Plus are expected to sport the same exact 12MP rear facing shooter and thankfully no dual camera drama here as we are seeing with most of the other OEMs. And S7’s camera was significantly better than most of the flagships last year and hence we believe going for the same this time also makes a lot of sense. However, on the front, we will be seeing an 8MP camera along with an Iris scanner by the side just like the one found on the late Galaxy Note 7. The Iris scanner on the Note 7 seemed to work quite well and hence we hope more people will be making use of that this time around.

Additional features

We have been hearing a lot about the S8 smartphone now and one of the most talked about feature that is expected to debut with this device is the new AI called Bixby. It is going to be similar to Siri and Google Now but we hope it is not as bad as the S Voice was. Judging by the rumors, it is expected to handle more complex instructions and commands flawlessly and it looks like there is going to be a dedicated button on the side to trigger this AI.

And the next feature which we expect the S8 will bring is the new Samsung DeX. This is going to work in the same way how Microsoft Continuum works, i.e. it will give an ability to connect the handsets to a monitor for a desktop view of Android. And lastly, the force touch display is also expected to debut here for Samsung with the S8. Force touch displays are there on a lot of devices out there, however, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is going to be the first smartphone to carry this feature from Samsung.

Launch Date, Pricing

Now that we have told you everything about this smartphone, most of you would be wondering as to when will this smartphone launch right? Well, there have been a lot of speculation around this particular topic, however, now it is expected that the Unpacked event where the Galaxy S8 will be unveiled will happen on March 29th in New York City. The smartphone was expected to launch way before this date however, the company wants to take its time and polish the device further and make sure that it doesn’t end up being like the Note 7 phablet and definitely, the last thing which you as a consumer would also want is a smartphone that could potentially explode.

And lastly touching on the pricing, the S8 smartphones each are expected to cost a €100 more than last year’s models. The S8 regular variant is expected to retail for about €799, whereas the S8 Plus is expected to cost €899 and both of them will go on sale on April 21st. Now that you have all the info with you, let us know if you would be interested to buy this smartphone for the said price if you are offered all the features mentioned above.
