After being in the rumors mills from the last few months, Vivo has officially launched the new Vivo X9s and X9s Plus smartphones today in China. Both these devices are the upgraded variants of the Vivo X9 and X9 Plus that are first launched in November 2016. The new Vivo X9s devices share almost similar specifications as their predecessors. While the most of the specifications remain same, the new X9s devices come with a couple of upgrades on the spec sheet. Apart from the minor changes, the new Vivo X9s and X9s Plus devices come with the same unibody metal design as seen on its predecessors.
The physical home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor is now wider. Earlier, there are few leaks suggesting both these new devices to feature the newly announced under glass fingerprint sensor. Vivo showcased this new technology on the modified Vivo XPlay 6 smartphone at the MWC Shanghai 2017 event. The Vivo X9s and X9s Plus are also the first Vivo smartphone to run on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat. However, the devices still come with FunTouch 3.1 UI and there won’t be many visual changes as the in-house UI is highly customized.
The Vivo X9s sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display offering a pixel density of 400 PPI. Under the hood, it houses the Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 510 GPU. On the other hand, the Vivo X9s Plus sports a slightly bigger 5.85-inch display offering the same Full HD resolution with a pixel density of 380 PPI. It is powered by 1.95GHz Snapdragon 653 octa-core processor and packs the same Adreno 510 GPU. Both the devices come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory that can be further expandable via MicroSD card slot.
In the camera department, the Vivo X9s & X9s Plus comes with a 16MP sensor on the rear with PDAF and LED flash. For selfies, there is a 20MP + 5MP dual camera setup with soft LED flash and fixed focus. Interestingly, the secondary front camera is downgraded from 8MP resolution, the company says the tweaked beauty algorithm can capture selfies with better background blur effect, clear focus, and more artistic sense. The bigger Vivo X9s Plus is backed by a 4,015mAh battery, while the Vivo X9s with slightly smaller form factor houses a smaller 3,320mAh battery.
The Vivo X9 with an AK4376 audio chip gives Hi-Fi sound output, whereas the Vivo X9s Plus includes ES9018 & ES9603 Hi-Fi chips. Both the devices support dual SIM dual standby and offer VoLTE for HD call quality and faster data speeds. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, USB OTG, GPS, 3.5mm Audio port, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. These devices also got Always-on display feature that shows time and other information like missed calls and SMS even when the screen is turned off. Vivo is also offering Hi-Fi XE680 earphones for free with both the devices.
Coming to the pricing, the Vivo X9s is priced at 2698 Yuan (approx $395 / Rs. 25,700) and will be available from July 20th. The Vivo X9s Plus with bigger display costs 2998 Yuan (approx $440 / Rs. 28,500) and goes on sale from July 8th. Both the devices will be available in Gold, Rose Gold, and Black color options. The company is also offering custom engraving option on the rear for free with every pre-order. As of now, there is no information about the availability of these devices in the foreign markets.
