After teasing for the last couple of weeks, Xiaomi has officially launched the Mi Max 2 smartphone today in India. It is the successor to last year’s Mi Max smartphone which came with a 4,850mAh battery. The new Mi Max 2 was already made available in China and few Southeast Asian countries. The Mi Max 2 comes with a unibody metal design and features a curved Antenna bands on the top and rear edges. Interestingly, the Indian variant of the Mi Max 2 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat based MIUI 8 and the company also promised to release the MIUI 9 update.

As seen on the Mi Max, the new Mi Max 2 also comes with the large 6.44-inch display that offers Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution at a pixel density of 342 PPI. However, the company has trimmed down the black bezels around the screen. Considering the large screen size, the company has included the quick ball feature and one hand mode for more convenient one-hand usage. Under the hood is the 64-bit Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. This is the same processor that also powers the popular Redmi Note 4.

It packs 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage variants. There is no MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. In the camera department, the Mi Max 2 features a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor on the rear with PDAF and a large 1.25μm pixel size. This is the same sensor that is used for the rear camera on Xiaomi Mi 6. For selfies, there is a 5MP front camera with wide-angle lens. The device also sports stereo speakers for the immersive sound experience. It is backed by a 5,300mAh battery that is rated to give up to 18 hours of video playback or up to 57 hours of talk time.

The company also claims the device to last up to 2 days on a regular usage. FYI, the first-gen Mi Max came with a 4,850mAh non-removable battery. The Mi Max 2 also supports reverse charging and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. With such a large battery, the Mi Max can be charged from 0% to 68% in just one hour. As seen with the Mi Max, the new Mi Max 2 also comes with three capacitive navigation buttons. The circular fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear.
