TCL-owned Alcatel has announced a bunch of devices at the ongoing IFA 2017. The list of devices includes the Idol 5S, Idol 5, A7 XL and A7 smartphones. Just before the event, the company also launched the Alcatel U5 HD as an upgraded variant to the last year’s Alcatel U5. All the newly launches Alcatel smartphones come with a circular fingerprint sensor placed on the rear. The smartphones also support 4G LTE for accessing faster data speeds and making HD voice calls.
Alcatel Idol 5S & Idol 5
Both the Alcatel Idol 5S and Idol 5 smartphones come with the same unibody metal design with curved antenna bands across the top and bottom edges. While the Idol 5 devices come powered by MediaTek chipsets, the earlier launched Idol 5 devices in the U.S includes Snapdragon 625 chipset along with a different design. Both the new Idol 5 and Idol 5S comes with a 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. While the Idol 5 is backed by a MediaTek MT6753 processor, the Idol 5S comes with Helio P20 processor.
In the camera department, the Idol 5 sports a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. On the other hand, the Idol 5S comes with an improved 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies. The Idol 5 devices are backed by a 2,850mAh non-removable battery that might not last more than a day long usage. With the slightly better specifications, the Idol 5S costs €399.99 and will be available only in Dark Gray color.
Alcatel A7 & A7 XL
Unlike the Idol 5 and Idol 5S, the Alcatel A7 and A7 XL are two totally different devices. The Alcatel A7 XL comes with a metal finish body and a large 6.0-inch IPS display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, it comes powered by MediaTek MT6750S and packs 3GB of RAM. There is a dual camera setup on the rear featuring 12MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. Talking about the Alcatel A7, it comes with a slightly smaller 5.5-inch display and offers the same Full HD resolution.
Instead of the dual camera setup, the Alcatel A7 sports a single 16MP sensor on the rear. Both the Alcatel A7 & A7 XL are backed by a 4,000mAh battery and might support at least 10W fast charging.
