Sony’s 2018 Flagship Smartphone Spotted with 18:9 Full-screen Display & Android 8.1 Oreo

Sony’s flagship smartphones always feature top-notch specifications on-par with flagship devices from other manufacturers. At the MWC 2017, the company launched the Sony Xperia XZ Premium as world’s first Snapdragon 835 powered smartphone. Even the recently announced Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact are the world’s first smartphone to run on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. However, the Sony flagship smartphones share the same boring Omnibalance design starting with the Xperia Z launched in 2013.

The only major change in terms of design is the camera sensor placement. Now, the latest leaks reveal the upcoming Sony flagship smartphone from 2018 to comes with the refreshed design featuring 18:9 all-screen display. If it’s come out true, the big chins on the top and bottom of the display will be removed for a good reason. Most of the major Android smartphone manufacturers including Samsung, LG, and Xiaomi have launched smartphones with 18:9 displays.

Next month, Huawei will also launch the Mate 10 Pro with the all-screen display offering 18:9 aspect ratio. Sony’s next flagship smartphone will be unveiled at the MWC 2018 and is said to come with a new design called Mirai. Now, a new Sony smartphone with the model number H8151 is spotted on GFXbench revealing the key specifications. Firstly, the 5.8-inch display on this new smartphone comes with Full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) resolution which brings the aspect ratio to 18:9.

Under the hood, the device might come powered by Snapdragon 836 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. While the Snapdragon 835 processor is clocked at a maximum of 2.45GHz, the Sony H8151 comes with a 2.6GHz processor. It includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On the camera front, the smartphone comes equipped with a 17MP rear camera and a 12MP selfie camera. Both the cameras support video recording in 4K resolution.

As seen on the earlier Xperia devices, the upcoming H8151 also includes NFC support. It will be running on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with the customized Xperia UI on top.
