Today, Xiaomi has launched its first ever Android One Smartphone dubbed as the Mi A1 in India. While the MIUI ROM’s are very popular on the Xiaomi smartphones, the company now wants to cater to that different set of users who love stock Android on Mi devices. The Mi A1 is actually the same Mi 5X that was launched in China but without the in-house MIUI. It is also the company’s first ever dual camera smartphone to launch in the Indian smartphone market. Earlier this year, the company skipped launching the flagship Mi 6 smartphones after seeing very less demand for the premium Mi 5 smartphone.

The Mi A1 comes powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 which is one best power-efficient chipset available in the market. Even the Redmi Note 4 and the Mi Max 2 are also powered by the same Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. However, the company is marketing the Mi A1 as a flagship device. The new Mi A1 additionally has a MicroSD card slot and 3.5mm audio jack that is missing on the Mi 6. It comes with a price tag of Rs. 14,999 and offers one of the best smartphone cameras at this price range. Along with premium build quality, the Mi A1 also comes with Google’s software support for at least two years.

Even with the stock Android UI, the smartphone comes with MIUI camera app. It comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and is also expected to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of this year. There is also a Mi Remote app to take advantage of the IR blaster featured on the top edge. Compared to the Redmi Note 4, the Mi A1 comes with smaller 3,000 non-removable battery. The Mi A1 in-box contents include the handset, 5V/2A (10W) power adapter, USB Type-C cable, user manual, getting started guide, and a SIM ejector pin. As seen on the earlier launched Xiaomi smartphones, there is no headset includes within the package. Watch the Video below to get an idea on the package contents.

Camera Samples

Below are the few camera samples captured with Mi A1 using the dual rear cameras, front camera, and portrait mode.

Both the Mi A1 and the Mi 6 shares the same 12MP dual camera setup on the rear. There is a wide-angle sensor with 1.25μm pixel size, f/2.2 aperture, 5P lens, and dual tone LED flash. The another 12MP sensor comes with the telephoto lens, 1.0μm pixel size, 5P lens, and f/2.6 aperture. Just like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5, the Mi A1 also offers 2x lossless zoom. For selfies, the Mi A1 sports a 5MP on the front with 1.12μm pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. Though the Mi A1 runs on Pure Android, it still got the Xiaomi’s camera app from MIUI. The users will also get unlimited storage of videos and photos in high quality.
