Fossil launches new Smartwatches powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 Chip

Smartwatches have been there for a long time in the market now. And lately, we have been seeing a lot of advancements as well in the category. The smartwatches were not really famous because of almost all of them sloppy in terms of processing power etc. They used to lag, which resulted in poor performance and what not. And now one of the biggest players in the industry has stepped up the smartwatch game. Yes, we are talking about Qualcomm, and they had announced a new processor for wearables back in February this year.

One of the first devices to ship with this new processor from Qualcomm are the Fossil Q Wander and Marshal. The company revealed these new watches at IFA 2016 show floor yesterday. Note that these are not the only new watches to be powered by this chipset, but the ASUS Zenwatch 3 is also running on the same chipset. But technically, Fossil’s watches are going to be the first ones to ship with them. These chips are specially designed for Android Wear watches and will use 25 percent less power than any other chips.

They also support untethered wearables i.e. wearables that have their own LTE Modems. So these chips have some interesting features up its sleeves. This may not be a big news in the smartphone industry as every other new smartphone will come with some or the other new chips. But when it comes to the smartwatch, even these tiny changes makes a huge difference. And now it’s just about the time that we see how these new watches perform and fair well against all the odds.

It is also expected that these new chips will address many other issues as well. These issues include poor battery life, slow load timings of third party apps and dependency of the watch on the smartphone for various features to work. If this goes well, then we can see the smartwatch industry grow rapidly as consumers want to see all these changes before they can invest some money on them. Stay tuned for more info on this.
