Samsung’s Note 2 Smartphone catches Fire on Singapore-Chennai Indigo

After the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, it is time for its predecessors to come into limelight. The Note 2 from the South Korean Giant which shook the market when it was released has caught fire on an IndiGo plane that was landing in Chennai on Friday. The crew noticed smoke from the overhead bin where the device was placed and was expecting a possible fire accident which made them use extinguishers on it. After the incident, the aviation regulators have been prompted to seek measures to ban the use of all the Note series smartphones from Samsung on flights.

The officials said that there are not sure if the handset was switched off or not, and the incident took place on the international flight from Singapore to Chennai which was about to land around 7:45 am. This incident has taken place after the series of battery explosion that took place with flagship Note model. Although there was no damage caused, this event cannot be overlooked as the scenario could worsen.

“IndiGo confirms that a few passengers traveling on 6E-054 flight from Singapore to Chennai noticed the smoke smell in the cabin this morning (September 23, 2016) and immediately alerted the cabin crew on board. The crew quickly identified minor smoke coming from the hat-rack of seat 23 C and simultaneously informed the Pilot-in-Command who further alerted the ATC of the situation on board,” the airline said.

“Taking the precautionary measure, the cabin crew on priority relocated all passengers on other seats, and further observed smoke being emitted from a Samsung note 2 which was placed in the baggage (of a passenger) in the overhead bin. The crew discharged the fire extinguisher which is as per the Standard Operating Procedures prescribed by the aircraft manufacturer, and quickly transferred the Samsung note 2 into a container filled with water in lavatory, “ the statement said.
